Hello everyone, I have a question about the M1200 Armored Knight and hope some of you artillery types can help me out. Why is the operator of the 'sensor' equipment not under armor? I assume this vehicle/system fulfills the same role as the old FIST V vehicle which had the protected 'hammerhead'. That being said the operator on all platforms (M1200, Stryker and HUMMVEE) is exposed. Any help to satisfy my curiosity would be appreciated.

Due to the sensor being Identical to the LRAS3 (with an exception to software) it is mounted externally since the true job to sit back in a defilade position somewhere and find targets from great distances. The FS3 has optics that can look farther than the old M981. So there is no need to have the operator under armor since it is such a small siloutte.
