While visiting a local hobby store yesterday, I saw they have 3 Jagdtiger, 2 Nasorn, and 4 Hummel from DML on display, I bought them all. I never built any of these before, so if there is anyone whom had built them, please kindly let me know what should I look out for, and how do you rate these three kits. I think I kinda get a good deal, because I heard that DML Jagdtiger nowadays is rather rare.

Thanks!

I know the second two are OOP or out of production I am not sure about the first one I think it is too. If you are a real bolt and nut counter then you have problems as both are a little out of detail their are articles on building both of them. Eduard use to make the PE sets for them both but has stopped. I have 4 of the Hummels and one of the Nashorns none built yet. but I did get the PE kit for the Hummel which I will try to etch myself. Do a search here or at Google for these kits. I heard that Tamiya might make the Hummel I wish it would.
And welcome aboard you will find a lot of helpful folks here.

Welcome aboard here SS-74!!! :-)
I don't know too much about German armor, so I'll try to locate some reviews or builds out there.

Jagdtiger - loaded with after market kits:

Nice review/build on the Jagdtiger:

Hey SS-74 welcome to the site. I have built the DMl JagTiger. It is an old Gunze kit, and great in my opinion. You are fortunate to have gotten it, because it is now on DML's discontinued list. :-)

I have all of those kits but I have only gotten to build the Nashorn. It goes together fairly well and I don't recall any major problems with fit. I have pics of mine posted in the gallery, I put a little too much sag into the tracks but other than that it is not a bad kit at all. I wouldn't mind building another one some day, Nashorn and Hummel are fairly cheap nowadays. I have the Revell of Germany Jagdtiger but it is actually the DML issue in a Revell box for half the price of the DML I'm sure....

Hi my fellow armor model builders,

Thank you all for your kind replies and welcome. This site is great! I have been just checking in from work in the last 2 or 3 months, then a couple days ago, I decided to get an account here, because I want to PARTICIPATE too! You folks are amazing, the knowledge, the technics, and above all are so helpful.

I had been putting down modelling for quite some times, and just picked it up again, I am sure I will have tons of questions to ask. I am really in to German armor in WW II, so it's my grand ambition to build all the major AFV of Germany in WW II, before I actually doing it, I thought it might be a three years project, now I know it might be a "couple life time" project....

Anyway, the website in the replies are amazing....So I am going to get the metal barrels, the modelkasten tracks, as well as the PE for them, since I have trouble working with tiny PE stuffs, so I think I will just go for the fenders for the time being....(My fat fingers!!! )

Anyway, have a nice day to you all!

Hey Dave, glad to help out. Helping each other here is what makes this site and hobby so much fun...keeps us all coming back for more.

Anyway, if you are new to PEing or would like some more tips or help with it I found a very nice page awhile ago full of help.

http://eduard.rvsnet.cz/info/colin.html

And here is the indispensible "Hold and Fold" ,so no matter how fat your fingers are this will certainly help with those tiny pieces.

Hello Kencelot, thanks for the help. The outline in the Eduard site will be helpful in my next tackle of PEs. Please do not judge me, , I already got the whole lot of the Small Shop tools, the 8" fold and hold, the 8" blade, the rolling set, the cutting set. Yet, still have troubles. I sort of pinpointed my problem last night while struggling with the small tie down on my Konigtiger. I have no problem with cutting, moderate problem with folding. The biggest difficulties is gluing, it's my shaky hand... I am giving thought to quit smoking, or at least not smoking 3 hours prior to PEing..... :-)

Anyway, thanks for the help.

Cheers,

I've built the DML Hummel and it turned out to be a great kit. The gun is incredibly detailed. I don't recall any signifigant problems in putting it together.

Hi KMM,

Thanks for the reply, so does that mean it will not be necessary to replace the kit gun with a metal one?

Thanks!

I wouldn't bother to replace it, but I guess it depends on what you think of the gun. I sure know it had plenty of parts and detail for me!

That is the one he is building DML. Not to bad of a kit have seen a nice collection of them built on the web, really good ones but would get the PE kit for the Hummel. I have since changed my mind on PE kits as Eduard still has them on Squardon.com They also have the floor plate and the ammo cans about $40.00 in tolal.
Geesh hope he has a good job

Hi, Sgtreef and Marek, Thanks for the info. Started from a couple kits ago, it's my practice to always buy 1. PE sets, 2. After market Barrels, and 3. Modelkasten Tracks. Guess it won't be too much a problem for me. For both Hummel and Nashorn, I am going to get the resin kits for the gun as well (The part behind the shield, what is it called anyway?)

I am looking forward to start on these two kits after I finish my Stug III Auf A....Oh By the way, is there any metal shells for the Hummel 150mm tube?

Thanks!

Hi Dave (SS-74)
I just want to wish you the best sucess in building your models.
Being a modeler and studying W.W.II German & U.S. armor myself, I also like
like Dragon & Academy kit's a lot. But I also have to say since we
are model builders, we have the accessories, aftermarket kits, and reference in todays hobby shop's & internet ordering, to make any other kits that aren't so well made,
and turn them into a better, more accurate piece of armor.
That's why I love modeling, and where the fun is for me.
I like that to hear a modeler who is up to accessorizing a kit, and I have also
seen some good OOB models also. But when you get into the the PE & resin
accessories, you can build one hell of a great model - Ever since I start doing
aftermarket accessories, I won't go back to OOB.
SO ALL THE BEST TO YOU - ENJOY EVERY MINUTE OF BUILDING THOSE
GREAT GERMAN PIECES - HOPE TO SEE THEM WHEN YOUR DONE.

Hi Ralph,

Thank you for your kind words. You are absolutely right, once I had used the aftermarket accessories, I cannot get back to OOB building. Seriously, I think it's a form of sickness. We all need help!!! :-)

Armor modelling is so fun, I usually off work about 1930 every day, and I use 2 to 3 hours a day to do modelling. (Benefit of not married and in between girl friend) And I sometimes don't even think it's enough. It's an addictive hobby.

Anyway, thank you again for your kind words, have a nice day.
