Happy New Year. Just started up again after years of no modelling. The dot method with oils is awesome. The question I have is: How much thinner do I use when applying the brush? Is it more of a dry lite wash or heavy thinner? Cheers.
Ken.

i find with the dot method it is best to make small dots and many of them rather than large dots of oil. then i take a flat brush, dip it in paint thinner, dab it on a tissue until the brush is damp but not soggy wet and then do strokes in one direction over the dots. you will find that it is easy to just start with the least amount of thinner on the brush and gradually remove the oil paint dots then it is to go with a wet brush and simply remove the dots all together.
note that oil paints dry slightly lighter then they appear wet so i usually go for subtle amounts left on the model. hope this helps. cheers, bd.
