Hi, can anyone suggest a 2-part epoxy putty that can be used for adapting figures? I'm thinking of the same stuff used by Calvin Tan?? Thanks

Hey Paul
You won't go wrong with Aves Apoxiesculpt or MagicSculpt. There is also Greenstuff which I haven't tried personally, but heard it is good for stuff like hair etc. I'm using Aves at the moment, and the kicker is that it is non toxic (there is a bit of saliva work that goes into putty shaping )

Id second the magic sculpt recommendation. Great stuff to work with. I havent tried it myself, but a friend recommended getting green stuff as well ... it can mixed with magic sculpt for a more rubbery material that works better for small details, hair, rolling thinner, etc.

Many thanks!! I'm UK-based so will do a trawl on internet for stockists. Any good tutorials on sculpting fine detail on figures? I've got Tan's book on modelling SS figures and he does a lot with a thinner-moistened brush?? Awesome modeller!!

There's a brief intro to putties on page 2 of this sculpting article: Sculpting a Simple Woodlands Scene by Markus Eckmann. Don't be misled by the title and immediate subject, the techniques the writer discusses are easily applied to other subjects. The same goes for Calvin's book.

Hi Paul,
I have to agree with the Magicsculpt users on this one. It is great stuff & pretty easy to use. You can manipulate it with water so shouldn't have to worry about the saliva bit! I've just got back into modelling & have had to convert some figures into driving poses & the magicsculpt works a beauty!
I got my magicsculpt from ebay so you shouldn't have too much trouble getting hold of it.
I'm interested about mixing it with the green stuff. I've got some of that too but never thought of mixing the two together. I'll have to try that to see how I get on.
I also agree that Calvin Tan is an awesome modeller. I read that book on SS figures & he makes everything look easy, eh? Well, until I tried it myself! Oh wow! I'm way out of his league!
Anyway, good luck with the figures mate.
Joe.

Hey Paul
If youre still looking for a UK stockist for Magic sculp or green stuff then I'd recommend Sylmasta They seem to be the official Supplier/manufacturer for both items and have very good prices
Hope this helps
