Does anyone know where I could find a cross reference for oil paints? 502 abteilung oils are not available at any hobby shops in my area. I would like to find the comparisons of the 502 colors that I see so many modelers use. Thanks in advance.

If you have an art supply store somewhere close you should be able to find tubes of artists oils, which are basically the same thing as 502 Oils. There are loads of colors and brands. I usually go for Windsor & Newton ones as they are good quality.

Same as Karl here... Winsdor and Newton... used these previously for painting/washes... just tired them for the first time in the dot-fading technique, and I think the are pretty good.. thing is I this the brush was atad bid loaded with thinner, plus the model was sealed in future instead of matt...
Anyway, I use burnt umber, burnt sienna, prussian blue, yellow ochre, cadmium yellow light, lamp black and titanium white... same as all oil paints, except without the fancy names.
Hope this helps!

Hi
I think the original poster wanted to know what the equivalents would be of the colours in the Mig range if purchased as say Windsor & Newton Oil colours in his local art shop.

You won´t find a lot of equivelent oil paint colours to the 502 line. Mig has a lot of colours in his range like fireld grey, brick red, and skin tones that are unique to Mig Productions, and aimed at military modellers. Of course there are a few that are similar like black, white, etc.
I like the Mig oils a lot. Very good quality oils for a decent price. Mixed with Humbrol enamel thinner, they make great washes. One tube will last almost a lifetime ... so they´re a good investment.

Hi Frank
If you mix a quantity up for using as a wash , say in a small jar, how long will it keep for. Does it separate out or anything. I seem to remember reading about oil paint thinned for washes going into clumps after a time.

It has been my experience that the Winsor and Newton Oil Paints separate almost immediately when thinned into a wash. This is normal and as you work just keeps mixing it back up. I don't store any oil washes as I make it up in very little batches for immediate use.

Thanks for the help guys. Sorry if I was a little unclear. I am looking for color equivalents to the 502 range colors. For example: What Windsor and Newton shade of grey would be the closest match to Mig's "Grey wash for yellow caom"?
