Dear all,
I have recently come upon a puzzling fact and wonder if any one can explain it!
Why is there such a lack of decent, and I would stress the decent, model of the M109 155mm Self-Propeled Howitzer in 1:35 scale?
Production start in 1963 with more than 5000 and its derivates exported to: Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Egypt, Ethiopia, Germany, Greece, Iran, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Korea(ROK), Kuwait, Morocco, Netherlands, Norway, Pakistan, Peru, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey and UK.
Surely, a decent kit of the M109 in 1:35 scale any varyant with good details, would sell well!
Well, would it be to much to ask for: Academy, AFV Club, Bronco, Hobbyboss or Trumpeter say bring out a really good M109?
I suppose it provides an interesting problem!
Sorrey for my poor English.

Hi Jose,
I thought the same about a new up-to-date M109 kit. I will discuss this issue with the guys of Trumpeter end HobbyBoss at the Nuremberg Toy Fair next month. I found out that these guys are very interested in any input, and a modular constructed M109 family might become a mega seller. But even if they listen now, I think it will take at least a year to make the molds.
BTW wasn´t there a rumor about a M992 FAASV to be coming from HobbyBoss?
Let`s hope so
Hans-Hermann

well
Actually kit marketing has a lot of oddities and always modeller wishes and catalogues are different
For exemple i don't know why Tamiya stopped to produce the Gaz 67 in 1/35 scale
and Italeri doesn't sell more the (very common) Chevy gun tractor and the (more common) Dodge wc 51 "Beep"
I don't know why the only decent (although is no flawless) t72 kit available is the old Tamiya one, that reproduce a strange german M version...
And i really don't know why Tamiya make a rather god t55a...but it doesn't make a t55 family
But anyway, in the last ten year luckily we have a lot of new kit every year. For exemple a very good Gaz 69 kit finally has been produced...and his lack was another absurdity ...(now...how many years i have to wait for a good uaz 469?)
So, in my opinion....we have just to wait an pray
Sooner or later almost ALL the tanks will be done
cheers

Amen Brother!!! It certainly is an iconic weapon and I know it would indeed be a good seller. The Italeri kits are gettting hard to find and show their age. There is a fair amount of AM stuff out there.... Come on Gayoue put this one on the list - and do multiple variants.

Sure, a new, up to date M109 would be great. The old Italeri kits are not that bad though. They can be a little hard to find, but are still out there. I like them.

I have to agree with my brother Gino. The old Italeri kits are not that bad. Currently the M109A6 is available. The Three older kits M108, M109 and M109A2/A4 are on ebay but it would be nice for a re-relese. Same with the M107/110 series.
The are fairly good with details and if you add a PE set you are golden. Get Warriors to update their A2/A4 internals set for A6 or original 109.
A good rerelease of the series...maybe add a PE set and you are fine. If not...go to ebay.
Then go totally cool and release an M992
The situation is much better than say the M7 where everyone has a kit
Rounds Complete!!

Which by the way is very difficult to find too
I've been looking for the hull interior set for years - on EBAY too

Hi all,
why not putting some resources together and send them to Trumpeter or HobbyBosss or Bronco. I think there must be some hundred pics of the M109 versions, BMY/UDLP line drawing and the Technical Manuals. I think that Gaoyue wouldn`t resist such an offer?
Think about it.

I think the reason why is because the M-109 is not World War 2, German, its kinda why they keep putting out the wire stock M-249's

I second that; it seems as if only ultra morden and ww2 stuff is in. The cold war is stone dead.

The cold war may have been consigned to history but it`s still pretty cool modelling wise !.I am lucky enough to have the M108 and M109 in my stash but i`d still love to have the ammo carrier as well,as for service did`nt 109`s serve in the gulf wars ?.

OK......war service.....
M108 105mm and M109 both served in Viet Nam. Ammo carrier was the M548
M108 - Italeri kit #286 and M109 - Italeri kit 235. M548 - AFV kit 3503
M109A4 and M992 Desert Storm. M109A4 - Italeri kit #246, M992 Nemix resin kit 3502 (close.....and rare)
M109A6 and M992 OIF. M109A6 Italeri kit 372.
The M108/109 series entered service in the early 60s and has served well through cold war and combat.
PS....my next build will be an M108 for a reunion of the 1/40 FA.....I will have a WIP here shortly

Oh yes, I would get a new M109 in an instant. Well, as soon as I start my conversion to an M109 KAWEST they will release a new one I'm sure...
With current release schedules it may be just a matter of time until we get one.
Cheers!

The M109A6 Paladin was not in use during the first gulf war, Operation Desert Shield/Storm (ODS) in '90-'91. The A6 model began fielding around '94. The M109A3/A5 were used in ODS.
A quick correction to my brother Redleg12's post above. The M109A4 was an export only version that lacked some of the upgrades on the A3 and A5. It was not used by the US Army.

Would be wonderful. I have been waiting years so a little longer wont hurt.
Can any one o read this topic imagine the diorama possibility with the M109 variants?
Can anyone imagine the possibility for the cottage industry?
