May God rest his soul.
A hero in the company of heroes.
We salute you, sir.
From a nation who is truly grateful for your service above & beyond...
You have earned your place in Valhalla.
God bless you.

Said to say that it will not be long until WW2 stops being a living memory, and the experiences that they endured become lines of text in a book.

I agree with Darren. I have been lucky enough to have been born at a time where I've still have a chance to meet some of the few who are still alive, which is sadly something that those younger than I may miss entirely...

All wars have commanders like Major Winters. They are few, they are gutsy and they are more about their mission, their country and the safety and well being of their men, even considering the crappy circumstances of it all. Guys like Winters can be found on both sides of No Man's Land. Because he was on the American side, I am personally grateful and proud that he led his men successfully through it all and contributed to the allied victory. Am glad and grateful for that victory. Can't imagine the way that people would be treated under the brutal control of the Nazis , Fascists, and Imperial Japanese. ...................God bless Major Winters......RIP.
