I'm trying to drill out the guide teeth on a length of spare track using .039 inch drill bit. Anything larger and the tooth breaks. Any tips to keep the tooth together?

Don't try to do it all in one shot. Use a smaller drill first to give your second drill a guide to follow. Also, take it slow -- too much torque and it will snap off. Then do a bit of clean up with an exacto.
