Rob,
I know, USMC you aren't, but should have some info regarding this.

While at Ft Leonard Wood last month, I saw a multitide of USMC cargo trucks in their driving training road work phase. This was a modern looking truck, I would guess about 3-5 ton, with single wheels all around (6x6). It sits very high, and the cab shape was similar to the FWD/conventional Oshkosh truck cabs. I didn't have the chance to get the nomenclature.

In reviewing a current magazine covering OIF, I saw these trucks in the background, but no reference to the type. Any ideas? The very non-M35 appearance shows it to be a subject I would like to try creating!

Nope I think he saw one of these:

My local USMCR unit in Red Bank, NJ has these in their motor pool...well maybe should say had them since they where deployed to OIF....but their equipment hasn't made it back yet.

SEDimmick,

YES!! That's the truck! Rob has been burning up leave time as I recall in a recent posting. Hopefully he can enlighten me as to the particulars of this truck. It's huge for a 6x6-- anyone jumping off the back cargo deck had better be parachute-qualfied, as it's a loooong way down from there.

Ya gotta admit, it's a cool looking truck!

Scott's picture looks like a regular M923A2 pulling an M198 155mm howitzer to me. Italeri makes a kit of this truck and there are several photos of A2 variants in my motor pool. I know there is at least an M931A2 5 ton tractor, M923A2 5 ton cargo and a couple of M936A2w/w 5 ton wreckers in my motor pool album.

Its know as an MTVR, they look similar to a 5 ton but when you see them in Person they are quite a bit larger then a 900 series truck

Yep, different animal. Haven't run across one of those. Also haven't seen it worked into the wheeled mechanic POI so I don't think the Army's using it.

Sabot,
You must likley will not see one in your motor pool, The USMC and the Navy Seebees are the only ones useing it,oh and there is a U.K. Tanker version. The Army got the FMTV instead.
BTW, My wife was away from the house yesterday and called me at home saying she saw a train with a few "Army Trucks" on it and it was heading my way. Since I live a block away from the tracks I grabed my camra and tripod and took a walk down the block, In about a half hour the train passed me slowly and I got some nice shots of three flat cars of new MVTRs. what luck to have a heads up. today I saw some more, but didn't have the camra ready

I got some driver's training during NET training in the FMTV. Rides very nicely, automatic Jake brake, automatic transmission. Nice thing is 90% of parts are interchangeable between the 5 ton and deuce variants.

IS Chevrolet assembling the MTVR USMC TRUCK?
Are they going to transform those USMC trucks into guntrucks? I heard something that they will add M113 turrets on trucks .

It's made by OshKosh.

The USMC often times has tougher truck requirements than the USA (ironically enough). The USMC often times asks for their own trucks and most times US industry succeeds in meeting the requirements. The reason for this, of course, is because the USMC has to do more with less than the Army.

The FMTV family I read was very good, only that when delievered, they had some axle problems.
