Dear friends,

I am going onto the 2nd part of my Ardennes 222 KT with painting the smoking Fallschirmjaeger figures.

I cannot paint the camo, I know there are decals out there

a) Are they easy to use?
b) Which pattern should I use, A, B or C?

Thanks
Cheers

Never tried the decals myself, I prefer to paint the pattern, but I would go with pattern A. It is quite difficult to see the colours from the links you posted but if you check out the Dragon Boxart for the FJ tankriders it shows the colours very well.

Thislink might help. Seems we are working on the same project

Hi Andy,

Great work!

How do you paint the splinter camo? Using very fine pointed brush only?

Cheers

Thanks, glad you like them.

I rarely use anything smaller than a size 0 brush but the ones I use have really fine points. No quick way to do it, just take your time and study the pattern. You will never get it 100% but a representation is good enough for me.

If you want to give it a go, here are the colours I used for the splinter pattern:

Base1:2 mix of Russian Uniform 924 and Pastel Green 885. (Or 100% 821 German Camo Beige for the tan base version).

Brown splinters 826 German Camo Medium Brown.
Green splinters 895 Gunship Green.
Raindrops 888 Olive Green.

All colours highlighted by adding 845 Sunny Skintone to the mix and shaded with 872 Chocolate Brown.

Hope you give the painting a go, I'm sure it will be a lot less tricky than using decals. As you can see, I have a few more to paint yet and then I can start on the KT !

I had the same problem when it came to paint the camo, a few attempts on old figures and the osprey modelling book, and now they look acceptable. I would strongly suggest that you pick up the book, an absolute must with clear and easy step by step painting guides.

Hope this helps
