I'm looking to get some replacement heads for some figures of mine, and have been looking at both New World Miniatures and Hornet/Wolf. I know the Hornet heads are the standard against others being judged, but are the NWM heads that much worse? About the same? Any others I might be overlooking?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Matt. Youīve said it yourself .... Hornet has set the standard, and if you are unsure, go with Hornet ... you canīt go wrong. I canīt speak about NWM heads specifically as Ive not seen them. If you think the expression a certain head has suits yur piece, go for it ... the few NWM figures I have are pretty nice. Another company who I really like their heads, is Ultracast. Very good quality. Warriors, Verlinden and Legends Productions are some others that do head sets. Verlinden might be on the large size though.

Thanks for the quick reply, Frank. I have a couple of sets of German WWII replacement heads and US replacement heads from Verlinden. I think I'll get a couple of the more unique head sets (sleeping/varied facial expressions) from Hornet and give it a go. Thanks for mentioning Ultracast and Warriors, forgot about those guys.

Hey Matt
Agree entirely that Hornet are the benchstick or yardmark
Do some research on a site that has good res. pics of the individual heads in each set. Firestorm and Colorado miniatures spring to mind as having this set up. Also bear in mind that there can be some very slim shaped and larger heads among the sets; echoing reality I guess... :

Brad,
Thanks for the info. I looked up Colo Miniatures earlier today, and then took my kid over to the LHS (they have a good selection of her Calico Critters stuff; she's 3) and they actually had a few packages, the US set 1, set 4, and a couple of German sets. Comparing them to say the head on my Tamiya StuG IIIB commander was like night and day. My LHS gets all my supplies and paint business, but they were twice as expensive as Colorado Miniatures.

Also have a look at Alpine Miniatures' range of head sets (they can be found under "Accessories" on the Alpine site). There are some reviews of the sets on Historicus Forma, Armorama's sister-site for figures. As for that Tamiya Stug 3B commander... yeah, not one of Tamiya's finest moments

Hornet is the standard by which others are judged. Having said that, you would do well to buy the NWM head sets if they have something you like. They're sculpted by one of the best, Raul Latorre. They meet the standard set by Hornet.

Hi Matt,
Personally, I'm a great fan of 'TANK' who advertise on this site. They're replacement heads are mostly German and Russian - click on their link and go to catalogue 'A'
