Rob Ferreira, in Missing-Lynx , ask me about the Matilda Crane that appeared in one of my Churchill´s CDL photos ...

As Rob wondered about the real vehicle, I decided to publish in this topic photos of the real thing and the transformation of one old Matilda scrap, from Tamiya, in this rare model ......

As always, it all started with a real photo and drawings of a rare vehicle (which I love to do ...)

The draw:

DISCUSSION ONLY - FONT: SEE THE BOOK COVER IN THE PICTURE

The principle was that the crane could remove the tower with gun at any time and mount the turret CDL, transforming a Matilda with "teeth"in a CDL and vice versa ...

Clever, huh ??!!!

The profile;

...and the real tank:

For those crazy things, I use old kits I buy already assembled some of my colleagues, only to be my Frankenstein!

So, if something goes wrong, don´t hurts in my pocket and conscience ...

ehehehehehehehehehehhehehehe

Sorry, but I'll post pictures of only the main steps ...

Images are aout-explanatory ... I finished this project in the past month, along with the reconstruction of my Matilda CDL (swapped the turret by a correct format, I did in scartch, based on a Verlinden ...)

Let´s go:
I make a 3 view draw as a guide for my scratch:

The player...an old Tamiya Matilda , scrap but usable ...

Friuls to add weight to my crane (My unique extravagance in this project ...)

Using Plastruct:

Build the crane:

Build the lifting frame for turrets:

Testing...

Crane done:

Primmer:

and colors:

The mantelet of my junk Matilda was built wrong ... These are some risks we take when using kits assembled ...
But it was easy to fix ...

As I would not leave my Matilda CDL without turret (I hate open tanks ...), I decided to build a normal gun turret as load for the Crane.

Something like if the turrets exchange had already occurred and the Crane was carrying the gun turret for the stock ...

But, now, I need to build the turret basket (pff...) Scratch time, again...

The two towers!!!

and..

Batman and Robin:

The crane in detail:

Sorry for the rush, but it was only to illustrate ...

As usual another fantastic build. As much as I like all the new add-ons guys add to their builds ( track /resin /pe etc ).. A classic kit ( from the 60/70s ) redune with a lot of scratch building always gets the blue ribbon IMO. I sit in awe at the feet of the master .

Marvelous work Marcos. I salute you Sir.

I cheated and did two versions of the same tank showing the different turrets.

Hi Marcos. Another stunning build. Great use of the old matilda kit ... the A-frame attracts the viewers attention instead of fact that it is a more than 30 year old kit. Nice one.

Very nice work indeed Marcos, that crane looks superb

Can I ask though, on what did you base the basket for the Matilda turret (I mean which source or draing or photo?)

Chris, thanks...
About Matilda´s basket, I found "inspiration" here:
The Inside Armour have a fantastic conversion kit, in resin, of the Matilda´s interior:

http://www.insidethearmour.com/pages/prod.html

As I was in a hurry, I did not order the interior of Matilda ...
The kit would take to get to my house almost 30 days.

Based on resin models, I made my scratch on plasticard ....
Not identical, but it was like ....

All the best !!!

Hmm that kit looks strangely familiar.

I think it is an outstanding example of the AM companies art. But then I might be a bit biased

Great to see the lesser known subjects getting made Marcos

Indeed, Chris !!!

I searched a lot about the basket of Matilda and the vast majority of searches I remitted to your product ...

As I was in a hurry, I decided to make a basket the most rudimentary, to illustrate my idea.

I am not a "rivet counter" or a "purist", but I like well-made kits ...

The idea of hanging a turret Matilda without further scavenges through my stomach ...

And as the rush is the enemy of perfection, I hung out with this ...

But please consider this as a compliment to your product. You should be congratulated ...Your interiors are fantastic...

It was really fun to see the circle closes, when I answered your question about references in the basket of Matilda. The source was you!

A big hug and thanks for the compliments. Coming from you, I consider an honor ....

One day, I experience one of their "babies" ... Like I said, I do not like "open tanks, " but who knows, one day??

Cheers and sucess

Heheheheheheheheh

Now I know , now...

.At the time, I had not associated Chris with the Company Inside Armour ...

ehehehehehehehheheh

It was funny, but I was honest: When she asked about references about the Matilda basket (which are more rare than an honest politician ...) I pointed out to her Company ...

It was fun to see the circle is closing ...

Reminded me of that scene from Star Trek (about Whales, remember?) in which Scott shows how to make transparent aluminum in the past ... The source was himself ...

ehehehehehehehehehh

Thank you, Ladies and Gentlemen ....the support and help!

All the best !!!

:_|

I have a great friend in the model world, called Chris (and she is a girl ...) and I think this is that influenced my mistake!

But anyway, keep the praises of their products ...

A big hug and take care ...
