Got in my 2 Dragon Jagdpanthers....early and late. I thought the late version would have the high left side air intake (round) rather than both of them flat-

Not that it is of earthshaking importance as I will build the kits as laid out, just curious

Here you can find some of the differences between the early variant (based on the Panther A hull) and the late one (based on the G hull) :

Hi

I seem to remember reading somewhere that Dragons Late wasn't a late in the same way that Tamiya's one depicts a late, but is in fact an early, but "late" in its production cycle, if that makes. Doesn't it have to do with being a G1 or G2 designated production version.

Not in any way an expert personally, just something, as I say, I seem to remember being commented about when it was released.

Hi,

I also got the 'late' Jagdpanther from Dragon, and I think too that it's not actually a late production model depicted, but more sort of 'mid' (although the terms 'early', 'mid' and 'late' are not totally appropriate, but that's with most of the German armour during their development)

Anyway, you can build one with the Crew Compartment heater (the 'high' air intake) and Flammenvernichter if you want, both are included in the kit. There are even two steel road wheels included, since a couple of the DML Panther G are in the box

cheers

Both these Dragon kits are Ausf.G1 Jagdpanthers; an 'early' G1 and a 'late' G1.
The 'late' G1 kit representing a Jagdpanther from around Nov'44.

The Ausf.G2 is what most think of as a true 'Late' . In this way the kit box title is a little misleading.

As mentioned, both Dragon Jagdpanther Smart Kits are G1 models, which retain some Panther Ausf. A features.
The Tamiya kit is a G2, which has a late Panther Ausf. G engine deck (except for the panel bolts, which are recessed on the tank, but usually proud on the self-propelled gun). The fan tower is a diverter for the heater, which funnels hot air from the radiator back into the crew compartment when all or some of the wedge shaped panels are installed over the circular fan opening.
