Hi,
I'm building a resin truck from Real Model & would like to know of a very good glue that will work for resin. I have a CA glue called Rokit, I think; but it just doesn't seem to want to play. I've had it for a couple of years so this may be the reason why it doesn't work too well.
Also, can anybody tell me a very good filler to use with resin, please? I have some Vallejo Plastic Putty but when I try to sand it down it all comes off! Mabye I'm doing something wrong.
Is there any more products I might need to do the job?
Thanks for your help.
Joe.

Hello Joe!
I recomend you the classic Loctite super glue for the resin. Always work well.
And for a good filler, avoid Vallejo or tamiya. Squadron have avery good filler that is much better and work very well with resin.
There are one GREEN (I use this) and anothe red.
The green work perfect over resin and I always use this.
Good luck

Hi Joe,
I have to second Mig's choice of CA; loctite is the best I have tried
for filler:
For small to medium gaps I use loctite mixed with talcum powder (or baking soda which also works) just put a drop on a piece of plastic or foil and add a bit of powder and mix it to a slight sloppy paste (not too thick) then smear it on. It dries in about 2 minutes (as opposed to putties which can take ours) and sands very finely, or if you don't want to create too much dust you can 'shave' it carefully with a scalpel blade
I have used this to fill very large areas but in large quantities it is exothermic and creates a LOT of heat. The drying time also slows exponentially with the increase in volume, so for large areas I use milliput, but squadron putty may well be much better, I've just never tried it
Remember, ALWAYS wear a mask when sanding resin or fillers used on your resin as exposure to resin dust is harmful
One thing I would recommend though; some of your issues may be caused by residue from the mold release agent left on your resin. I'd recommend you was the kit in tepid soapy water (washing up liquid is fine). Do not use hot water though, this will soften and possibly warp the resin

i use cheap and nasty super glue it seems to bond to resin better than some of the more expensive brands.
you can use micro baloons as well as talc or bicarb another good filler for large gaps is car body filler paste but its a bit messy and stinky especially mixing it in small quantities.
chris are you going to new mod ?

Sorry Roy, I can only do local shows or shows I'm trading at this year. Newmod is neither local, nor large enough to provide a market for my niche stuff unfortuneately
on the subject of cheapo superglue, Wilkinsons is the best cheapo in my opinion but personally I do find Loctite superior as the cheapo tubes leak too much and its too easy for the cap to stick on with half a tube left

Hi fellas,
Well, thanks very much indeed for a wealth of information here. I love the idea of super glue & talcum powder. Simple, yet brilliant!
Okay, so I've managed to buy myself some loctite super glue & debonder...just in case! Also, some Squadron green putty & some acetone. Somebody did mention mixing squadron green with acetone on this thread, didn't they? Or am I going mad? I'm sure I read it here but now I cant seem to find it! Anyone?
Thanks anyway, for all your help. Really appreciated.
Joe.
