the academy kit seems to be quite a bit cheaper. and some people in the know have found some rather large faults with the hobbyboss kit

Dylan

Sad to read about the Hobbyboss kit i had high expectation of this model based on their recent releases. I have seen photos of the Academy kit and it looks a pretty stunning model. As you say the Academy kit is cheaper retailing for about £25 and the Hobbyboss kit is £33 excluding postage here in the UK.

Paul,
I recently bought the new Academy LIC kit for $25 (USD) including shipping from an Ebay seller in S. Korea. That's like £15. Half the price of messed up Hobbyboss kit. Thanks to Ebay.

In my opinion the Academy kit has soft rivet detail, at least compared to Legend. And the tracks are too thin. Other than that its just fine. The HobbyBoss one can be corrected with one hour of work.

are you referring to the offset wheel error?

Yes,
I think one or two weeks ago a fellow modeller over at missing lynx did a correction, it did not seem to be difficult at all, just a razor saw and some polystyrene.

Hi Gang,i was wondering this question myself - i`ve bought the Academy one myself and it seems OK to me.However,if some one out there has access to both kits i`d love a comparisson/review of both, even if it`s just an "in-box" thing.

Anyone prepared to step up to the plate ?

From reading other treads here and information gathered from other sites it seems that the eagerly awaited Hobbyboss kit has a major fault, in that the road wheels are incorrectly offset on their version. As it’s a good bit more expensive and requires surgery to correct I think that in this case I will go for the Academy version. It has anti-slip texture and although I’m unqualified to express a technical judgement it certainly look a great model.
