Im doing a "what if" king tiger in Soviet service. My original idea was to do the hull in red oxide primer (gasp!) and the turret in Soviet green, maybe as if the Soviets had captured a factory and threw one together (I have no idea where the factories were located, i.e. west or east Germany) . But I keep changing my mind and thinking it would be more plausible for the hull to be painted in dark yellow and have the green turret, similar to the panthers that were captured. http://www.modeldads.co.uk/Life-at-the-Front/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/captured_panther.pnge
So what do you guys think would be more plausible? Ive repainted the hull several different times, both in primer red and dark yellow, and cant decide which I like more, although I am leaning more towards the primer red scheme ( Ive never done a all primer red hull before).

I would suggest the yellow as being more likely. However as you stated this is theoretical and I would go with the red just for the coolness of it
Oh yeah, and don't forget to plant an in-your-face anti-nazi slogan on the sides of the turret

The Henschel factory (singular--there was only one Tiger plant) was located in Kassel (also spelled Cassel), in western Germany. It was surrounded in the Ruhr Pocket by American and British Forces, after they linked up on April 1, 1945, and by April 16th, the factory director was giving the Americans a tour of the facility.

Jonathan, although the factory was in the western part of Germany...you are only limited by the bounderies of your imagination mate. That's the beautiful thing of the hobby, especially when you are doing a "what if" version. You can totally be free to whatever colors you want to use
although a green basecolor on the hull as well would be more realistic (often people think that Dark Yellow was the base color, but near the end of the war, it was actually Dark Green) But I'd say: go for the primer colored hull with a green turret with some nice red stars on it ey . I think that will just look cool
anyway: most important is having fun with it ;-) And don't forget to show us some pictures when finished ^^
cheers

Build it Jonathan... as someone said on my 'What if' IDF Panther "I say do it, and give your creativity free rein!" so I'd go with the Red Primer, plus it's going to wind up soooooooooooo many people, but to help you along a more likely way ... about ten years ago at the Duxford IWM they had a Russian Tank show organized by a real expert on Armour = Bob Fleming.
During the course of the show he was reeling of loads of information and tit-bits he'd picked up while in Russia buying tanks (as you do!) and talking to Red Army veterans ...and if I remember correctly...?
....he said that the Russian's used Panthers AND King Tigers as well as other German tanks/kit, but they prefared the Panther as the King Tigers were only good for so many miles then the transmission (or something or other major) went bang! so they must have been used! or one at least. I remember this as the Panther and King Tiger are my favorite WW2 Armour and this stuck in my mind or what's left of it!
Just post up some picture's when your done!

I think you should put purple and yellow polka dots over a blue topcoat. Then, add a laser cannon to the turret.
