A question about tie downs and attachment points. Aside from the ones provided for at the factory how often did/do crews attach their own? (this question applies primarly to wwII, but I am interested in any replies WWi to Modern) How were they made? Any photos out there of these on the web I can use as ref ? Any information on this subject wiuld be most welcome. Thanks

As I understand it, they were usually made from pieces of metal rod which were simply welded onto the vehicle. This probably would have been done by company mechanics while they were doing repairs/refits between actions. The addition of tie downs was probably regulated by the company commanders.

The attachment points were/are usually dome in metal and welded (or soldered??? ) to the vehichle. For what concesrns the tie downs nowdays for the most part they are made with fabric belts, in the past days could really be everything from leather or fabric belts to metal wire to ropes...
