Hi Dave,
I noticed this same issue when I figured out the track layout. It seems rather apparent that it will kink and rub in that position, furthermore in all the photos I have seen of K5's none have been in this position, not that it never happened.
The vogeltable set up in an odd firing situation is the closes I have come across in comparison. Maybe Trup should invest in making curved track as AM kit like they did with the straight track offering.
looking good -

Thank you all for the comments. I was able to finish up the build today.
I've searched every book and website I could find and have found out one undisputable truth -- the ladders either fold up, fold down, are bent to crap from turning (like the one on display in the US) are cut and moved closer to the bed (like the other one on displayed in Europe) or were removed like the one in the book German heavy rail guns. So I moved mine closer to the bed.
I shot a base coat of dark yellow with a touch of brown added and will final coat with dark yellow and then camo with red brown.
I hope to get the gun painted, decaled and flat coated before the summer fever hits and I'm outside rather than downstairs.

Did you paint inside the main section, before closing it in? I did that back when I built my Dragon Leopold.

No Carl I didn't, should have but I didn't. I was able to pretty much cover it using the airgun by cranking up the pressure, masking off the top and shooting the voids from the bottom. Worked out ok. I started on the second color -- it'll take hours!!! But I think it will be worth the effort.
Should make an interesting centerpiece for a dio. Dave

I kind of set a pattern following the photos (sortof) and fill in later.

Thought I should sort of finish up this one before getting to far on the Dora. I wasn't to happy with the track layout so I straigntened it out. I really couldn't verify the K5 0n a cross track like that and besides I picked up a nice locomotive to use in the "eventual" diorama and need the room.
Alson I wasn't real happy with the camo pattern on the sides of the gun itself so.. since Tamiya ia back int the us I'll shoot it again starting with the base yellow.
I should get it finished up in a week or so.

I put together a rough base for the "eventual" diorama.
A road will go between the - will be - rocks and the track. I'll put a supply wagon on the Leopold pulled by a WR360 C12.
With a halftrack pulling a ammo trailer on the road, a kettenrad on the first knob and a R75 with sidecar and a bunch of figures down the road and around the Leopold.
I have the track primed and flat painted. Now to figure out how to detail it.
And the Leopold is done except for decals and flat coating.
I figure it should take another year or so to complete the whole thing. Cant rush things. Dave

Nice build dave. For a first, you´ve done really well ... daunting for even old pros!! Have this in the stash as well, so I enjoyed your thread.

Thank you frank. I've learned a lot with this one. I'm continuing on the Leopold as a diorama and it's comming along pretty well. I got a good start on the supply car, just needs some decales and weathering. I've never dry brushed (successfully) before so it'll be a learning experience.
And have started on a 4x2 truck to haul supplies to the car
I needed something behind the train to give it some depth so I added a power line. I'll use stripped copper wire for the cable and beads for the insulators. Note the cables in front of the car.
and I tried out some woodlandsenics turf and shrubs. It's rather nice to work with. Now all I need to do is get about a gallon of glue and several more bags of the turf and I'll be set.
But enough for now, back to the Dora for a bit.

Hey all. I know it's an old post but I'm an old guy and besides I want this thing off the bench and in someone else's home. I changed some of the ground work and now I'm laying it out before the final weathering and epoxying stuff in place.

Hello
I have been reading all your thread to day and congratulate about your nice work !!
Am living there in France near the places where K5 where used in the Atlantic wall and have read and have selected a lot of informations about how these Giant guns where used .
your dio is very nicely done but be aware that K5 where never left as you are showing ;
when not firing they where protected on bunkers in where work was done etc etc
when firing they where extracted from bunkers or (coast) tunnels by W14 only ( these where built specially for these K5 Komando team )to be pusched on firing place as Weigel platforms or very rarely on some points in railways places not too far from the buncker where small bunkers where done to hold amunitions
Due to the danger of being shooted by GB Spitfires they never let the K5 attached to any other Wagon or Loco ; as soon as they fired or if Spitfires where in approach the W114 just come and pusched it onto his solid Bunker !!
When travelling from germany Only BR's with heavy armed and protected convoys where carrying these to Normandy or Anzio in Italy and they never stopped at any places !!
Amunition Wagons where totally differents with fridge stuff and convoy of these are differents from the one of the Gun not to risk to be destroyed at same time by aircrafts
Hope this helps

It's just about done. I've got a bit of dull coat to shoot on some CA joints but aside from that it's ready for the contest next Saturday.

hello
I have just started a campaign for rail guns. I have chosen the LEOPOLD and would like to know what set from Edward did you use for your model. I have read the post and any information about the build you would like to share or give me a heads up would be great.
never seen the painted the model. do you have photos of it?
