Hey there

I am building a 1/35 diorama of US Special Forces, who are searching for intel in an afghan compound (mud farm house).

I have a few pics from the outside of those mud houses, but unfortunately, there are rare images of the inside on google or militaryphotos.net...

Could you please help me? Do you have any pictures or links to useful websites?

Thanks in advance!

Best regards, Beni

Yes maybe, but one of these is empty and an other has US materials in it...

i have already built the basic building in 1:35, but i have no idea how to furnish and arrange the interior of it

i would like to arrange the compound interior as detailed as the shop on adamskis impresive diorama, therefor i could really use some reference pics/works/links

thanks

You're welcome Beni

Talking about stoves, I had noticed they were maybe the most ubiquitous piece of furniture (furniture is rather limited in these homes), so I just did a Google image search for "Afghanistan stove" ....et voilą

Yes, for most of them (sometimes I add some criteria in the "advanced search" like for instance searching for black & white pics only - for period stuff). But I also frequently browse Flickr albums using the search engine there...It's a real gold mine with tons of hi-res pics

Afghan homes are very simple. The Qualat's (Afghan mud home compounds) are very robust. They are made from a mixture of mud and straw. I's extremely tough stuff, I fired .50 cal and had it barely dent it, it's that tough that it will stop .50 cal API from a range of 150 meters. I have lots of pictures I took of Qualat's there, but not too many of the inside. I will say they tended to be painted white with a type of white wash, at least the places I saw, that is if they were painted at all. Also keep in mind, Afghan's don't throw anything out. Most common things left over from the Soviet occupation were not tanks, but the spam cans their 5.45mm ammo came in. Add a handle it it makes a great tool box. Also their shelters from the backs of the command trucks, it's an afghan double wide. They were everywhere. Hell I even saw a BTR-152 turned on it's side to create a wall and floor for a house once.

Copy of Inside the house

I've found the last 2 here : http://cryptome.org/info/af-war-arch/af-war-arch.htm : not a lot of interior pics there, but interesting stuff nevertheless (it should keep you busy for a while )
