Hello all,

Been looking for detail information and maybe some photgraphic evidence of the kettenkraftrad use in N. Africa if they served in that theatre of operation.
Would like to know either way. Thanks in advance.

I am pretty sure that the Ramck Airborne Brigade used them along with 2.8 cm squeezebore anti-tank guns.

Hi Tim,

I'm not sure about the 2.8cm smoothbore, but the Ramcke Fallschirmjäger used the Sd.Kfz.2.

Hi!

From what I can find, the SdKfz 2 did get used by at least some DAK units over in Africa. There are a couple of pics in the Concord "Armor at War Series" book 7021 "Armor of the Deutsches Afrikakorps" showing this little beast, with at least one showing one with the palm and swastika DAK emblem. (as versus a Ramke Brigade vehicle, which would likely be marked with the R in the diamond). Elsewhere, I've also seen pics of Ramke vehicles, so I would guess that there were at least a few units using them in the Afrika theatre.

As to the 2.8cm gun... that clearly did get used in africa - there are several pics around of the gun on its little wheels, and others with the gun mounted on the SdKfz 221 4x4 armored-car (like depicted in the recent Bronco kit). The SdKfz 2 would certainly have been a likely "prime mover" for this piece... but I don't have any pics to "prove" that!

Cheers!

Bob

Hi there,
there is photo evidence of use of these vehicles in N. Africa, specifically with the Ramke battle group (fallschirmjager) in Tunisia.

regards, JC
