Doing a little planning for a future project. Which is the best kit to depict the number 10 Sherman in the surf at Omaha of the famous photo showing this tank in the background w/ some infantry huddled around it? I believe it is an M4a1 and Bison apparently has a decal sheet for the vehicle. Are there other photos of this tank besides the blurry silhouette? If not, how did Bison or anybody decide the correct name on the hullside was "Aide de Camp?" Did this tank ever make it off the beach, or did it become a casualty?

But there are so many Sherman kits by different manufacturers these days, I can not keep up. Does Tasca have what I want? DML? I think I need to get The Tank Workshop wading stacks and mantlet cover too. But I want to avoid a kitbash if I can besides the AM parts noted above.

Steven Zaloga did a similar tank from D Day but I believe from Utah. Does anybody know which Military Modelling volume the build article is in?

Hopefully somebody out there has more info, but from what I can see of the photo here your tank looks like it might be a welded-hull M4 rather than the cast-hull M4A1. I say that only because the rear right-hand corner of the hull is visible and appears to have a fairly sharp angle that I think would be softer on the A1. However, in that grainy web pic it's a bit of a stretch...

If it's an M4 the only 1:35 kit that builds it OOB is the DML "Normandy" M4. You'll still need the wading trunks though. (AM or steal them from the Italeri M4A2 Marines kit like I did?)

The front tank in the picture above is Aid De Camp. It is not known if it is number 10 or not.
A color plate of Aid De Camp can be seen on page 33 in Concords, D-Day tank warfare.

I’m not sure if Aid De Camp made it ashore, I would like more information on this myself.

To Model Aid De Camp, use Tasca’s 35022 with the modifications you stated above.

Thanks guys. The Zaloga model on ML is set on Omaha, not Utah. Seems like the same company as Aide De Camp.

I found the Zaloga article. Looks like many of the tanks were towing the M8 Trailer. It is not needed to be accurate, but it would probably be best. Anybody make this in kit form? His article said Tiger Models but I believe they are going out of business or are out of business now.

Thanks for blowing up the image! I've looked at it and frankly cannot see how you can be positive about the curved hull. I've ringed the two spots that might help - the shadowing on the left shoulder looks too angular for the A1, while that rear corner is way too sharp even in this very grainy copy. However, I think we are both "pushing the envelope" on this, as the original pic is just too grainy to be positive. There's a lot more grey in the world than either black or white...
