Hi everybody,

can anybody recommend the best flatting medium for a model coated with Klear. I have tried various mediums but have inconsistant results. Any info would appreciated.

I have used Model Masters Acrylic flat. It looks white in the bottle
I usually put on 1 good solid coat let dry 10 min. then apply a second light coat but spray it from about 12 inches above the model allowing it to settle on the model as apposed to coating directly. This is done with a badger 200 airbrush but could be done with any airbrush.

Good Luck

I second Wayne's choice in the Model Masters Acryl #4636 Flat Clear Acryl. I have tried other flat coats with varying and unreliable results. I also read about using a mixture of Tamyia X-21 Flat Base with Future/Klear on this site:The Complete Future. From the site"

Quoted Text

Future does produce a glossy finish so many modelers will introduce a flattening material or only use it as a pre-decal sealer. If you wish to use flattened Future as a final coat here are a couple of suggested ratios of Tamiya flat base for different effects:
1 part flat base to 3 parts Future = very flat
1 part flat base to 10 parts Future = flat
1 part flat base to 15 parts Future = satin
If you get too much of anybody's flat base on the surface of your model you run the risk of making it all go white. No thinning is required just make sure it is well mixed.

I have tried a mixture of 1 part flat base to 5 parts future and it resulted in a flat finish with the absolute barely detectable and tiniest hint of sheen on the odd raised surface.

Cheers,
Jan

I use Vallejo Matt Varnish thinned with water and I've never had any problems flattening a Klear coat with it.

Agreed, the Vallejo Matte Varnish is excellent and easy to use.

I like to use Gunze's acrylic (Aqueous Hobby Color) clear flat H-20.
