Tamiya suggests XF-59 Desert Yellow. It's a bit dark for my taste, but after weathering it should do. I just did my Abrams with ModelMaster's USMC/US Army Desert Sand, which looks pretty good.

I know 2nd AD's vehicles looked almost pink when compared with the rest of III Corps' sand painted equipment. Our stuff, 1st Cav, was a more yellow sand color. I use Testors Model Master Desert Sand (#1963) in the spray can. It's a pretty good match. I even used it to cover up the bumper markings on my HMMWV when our battalion was re-flagged.

Second on the Dark Yellow of Tamiya. Not only too dark for me eyes, it's waaaay to yellow also. There's no hard-and-fast rule really as the paint gets quite weathered enough by the hot sun. I remember using Tamiya's Buff (XF-53 or XF-56, one of them, not sure) for my M60A3. It looked quite ok and somewhat matched with the photos I've seen back in 1990-1991.
