Hey Geraint,

Super to have you back. King Tiger tracks will fit Trumpeter's suspension, you'll only have to widen the idler.
Neither RB nor Aber has a gun barrel that has the correct length when installed, I had to find that out the hard way.

Cheers,

John

Hi . After reading a few Panther Books I'm Going for THE long L71 . quote "If production of a 88 mm Panther was succesfully started , Wa Pruef 6 was to make preperations for the furture to convert all available Panthers for major overhauls to be mounted with the 88 L71> If this was going to happen to the Panther F than surely the E50 would get the same teatment , not then using the normal 88 off the tiger II and Jagpanther without the muzzel brake. All that was needed was to increase the turret ring diameter by 100mm"" Chapter 7 Panther a quest for combat surpremacy. Shame I really like the look of the stepped 88 off the tiger II . But its good to even get a PAPER PANZER on track

They really are both the same gun. If you look at the early Tiger II it has a tapered barrel, if you look at the later Tiger II it has the stepped barrel. The early Jadgpanther has the tapered barrel and the late jadgpanther has the stepped barrel.

The only real difference is the location of the trunnions further back which pushes the barrel and breach forward in the turret. The plan was to use an unmodified Panther F turret for the 88 mm armed Panther, so if they increased the turret race by 100 mm it makes it nearly impossible to fit this to any Panther.

The trumpeter barrel comes out to long and will need to be shortened, but there really is no easy way to do it and still have it usable in the turret.

The RB Models barrel is the best of them for the trumpeter E-50. I have both the Aber and RB Models one and like it better. It is still to long, but looks good.

I just finished the E-50 and used the Modelkasten Tiger II set of individual links. They look good on there. However, I had to cut off every other tooth on the drive sprokets to get the holes in the links to mate up. Not too noticable after assembly anyways. The modelkasten set is kit no. MKSSK06 and available at Greatmodels web store. I used the kit split barrel and it cleaned up nice with my flexfile. Didn't think I wanted to spring for a turned aluminum barrel.

Regards,

Ray
