Euro,
US fuel cans can come in normally in either Tan plastic, the new ones, or OD Green metal, the older ones. Water cans are normally tan plastic with a larger filler cap than the fuel cans. They also have the word "water" embossed in them as the fuel cans are a bit wider and have "fuel" on them. The fuel cans are normally marked as such: Yellow topped cans means either diesel or JP-8 fuel while the red means gasoline, benzine or MOGAS.
