Hi guys,

just hacing some major trouble with grass for my latest dio.

can somone please tell me if i put static grass underneath my woodland grass matt? i find that im in trobule either way becuase, if i put the woodland scenics grass on top of the static grass it kinda floats and looks not real, and if i put the woodland sg straight on the soil ground work, it kinda looks see thru and also not real.

basicly, do i pput grass down first or do i put the dirt down first? anyone have any articles or build stories in regard to to my issue?

any help is much appreciated guys, thank you

cheers.

p.s. if u want i can post pics of my dilema and current progress to better show what the problem is. please let me know

You left out the third way, meaning putting static grass over the mat!
After the matt had dried, use duiluted carpenters glue, this will not cover the matt grass. Apply the static grass and blow. There will really stick enough between the matt and all those really glueing on other grass halms can be taken care off.
I did that these days to get a good automn mix. Put a green mat on the ground and long automn color static grass on top.
If you need a picture, i can load it up in a few hours

Here am applyoing the grass matt, never plain, always stretched , to avoid the Wimbledon look, in this case to make space for the static grass.

Glue on the spots without grass

and applying liberaly long static grass

This is not finished!!

I did not yet take away the surplus, did not comb it or give it any direction.
Also, in this case , this will not be the last layer. I will add one more with thicker dry grass.

Hope this helps

Claude

wow, thnx claude, that has helped alot. but how did u manage to stretch the grass matt so fine and not have any netting show or stand out? also, do u have any tips on how to make the grass stand up in the white glue? i find that when i sprinkle the static grass onto the glue it just lies flat, i try combing, using a static charged rod, but as the grass it stuck in the glue, it doesnt want to move, any ideas how i get it to stand up? cheers, thnx again.

No problem for stretching the matt. What will eventually show? The netting? These netting fibres are looking no different then any very small grass.
If you push you matt well into the glue ( i often roll something over it to flaten down) there is not a lot of netting visible anyway. Never had a problem.
I don't do a lot of mystic things with static grass either. Sprinke it on, blow up (blow from the sides, you know that for sure), that's it, for my purpose, it was always good (i never do a lawn).

Hey, it's nature, no need to work so exact!

Have a nice weekend

Claude, would you consider putting together a tutorial for making grass? I'm really liking your method and I think it would be of great use to a lot of people here
