All:

I am seeking to build an "up-dated" Sd.Kfz. 250/9 "Alte" with the old-style 10-sided turret in 1/35.

The only 1/35 250/9 "alte" styrene kit I know of is Tamiya's old piece- it's OK, but pretty soft in detail-specially in the turret. Basically, what I want to build is a "better" or at least somewhat more up-to-date, copy of this kit.

Here's my current plan: I have the old Tamiya kit, a Dragon SdKfz 250/1 Alte, a Dragon Aufklarungspanzer 38(t), and a metal 2cm KwK 38 barrel.

I would use the Dragon "Alte" for the hull, most interior detail, running gear, tracks - and add a roof structure to mount the turret on.

I would use the Aufklarungs turret inside parts and add the metal barrel...

But what best to do for the 10-sided turret shell? That Aufklarungs is the newer 6-sided type. Now, apparently SOME of these 250/9 "alte" vehicles did have 6-sided turrets, but most had the old-style 10-side... which is the type I want.

Seems my options are-

Transplant the Tamiya turret "in-toto" to the Dragon hull - defeats my intent of better turret detail., or...

Use the Aufklarungs turret in-toto on the Dragon hull - gets the details but defeats my 10-side ambitions (but is the easiest route to get a complete, up-dated turret with fitted screen top...), or...

Cobble together a 10-side by combining Tamiya and Dragon bits...

Maybe I could use the Tamiya turret shell, trim and thin its sides, and fit it over the Dragon inside stuff? Or maybe use the Tamiya turret as a template and construct the 10-side shell from sheet styrene, and fit this over the Dragon turret insides and base-plate?

The 10-side screens will be a problem... Looks like I would have to use the Tamiya top-screens, or scratch new parts, or get a PE screen set...

I would prefer to use what I already have, if possible, and skip an AM PE turret shell or resin turret.

I would greatly appreciate any advice you have to offer!

Voyager makes a P.E. Alte turret. It is number PEA145. You could probably find one on e-bay for a very good price.
