Hi,
In the below given link you will find some pictures of my second dio which is currently work in progress. The model is a 1:35 scale Dragon T34 tank which is also my second armor model. Please note that I do modelling for fun and dont really look for the exact color combination and all. The color combination that I have used on the model is purely out of my imagination. Thought it will be good to share some pictures at this stage with the hope of receiving some criticism or some pointers on improvement or tips.
Build log -
1. Painting sequence of the tank -
a. Bosny Mahogany spray paint was used for the base coat
b. Mixture of olive green, titanium white & raw umber oil paints were used as second coat. Second coat was heavy drybrushing and no spray paint or airbrush was used
c. Highlights done with a tinted mixture of black oil paint
d. Very light drybrushing of darker shade of olive green and raw umber oil paint mixture
e. MIG pigments applied as a final touch to simulate dirt/ dust effects. Never thought applying pigments could be that tricky
2. Ruined cottage build log -
a. This is the 4th attempt on building the cottage. The first three were made with different materials which of course I didnt like later on and so had to scrap it and started all over again. This one so far came out ok.
b. Structure of the cottage is made with foam and then coated with white glue
c. Cork pieces were glued on the foam to simulate bricks
d. Plaster of paris was coated next on the cork pieces to simulate mortar as well as wall plaster
e. The roof is made up of balsa wood
f. Painting sequence so far includes - base coat of a mixture of yellow ochre and venetian yellow orange oil paints. Bricks were painted with a mixture of raw umber and cadmium red oil paints. Roof color is a mixture of venentian yellow orange and payne's grey oil paints.
3. Yet to be done -
a. Weathering of the cottage walls and bricks
b. Weathering of the roof and roof damage
c. Fixing of cardboard tiles and painting and weathering them
d. Planning to put a movie poster or something on the outside wall and weather it
e. Groundwork with lots of debris and loose bricks along with broken wood pieces
f. Few shrubs or bushes
Would like to know the mixture of paints that I can use for weathering the cottage. I use only oil paints and dont have access to Tamiya, Vallejo or Lifecolor paints. Would be great if someone can point out the paint mixtures that I can use for the weathering part. Do let me know your views on this dio.....hope u will like it...

I like it but it would be better if you post the pics rather than just a link

Hey Sudeep, so far,so good. Each one you do will get better, as far as you are concerned. You'll P/U new ways to do things and find the challenge rewarding. See, your second one; now there's no turning back. Welcome to the world of dioholics.

Actually it works
You should put your mouse pointer on the pics then click the right mouse button.
After then, from the menu, you should choice a pic dimension (small, medium large or original)
When the image which you have chosen appears on the screen, you again have to put your mouse pointer on it and click the right mouse button
From the dropdown list you have to select "show image"
When the image appears on your screen you can copy the web adress and you can use it to put your pics in the post
I hope this is useful for you
Cheers

It's even easier than that- just follow thiese steps
Flickr has the easiest way of sharing I've found online.
You also have free gallery space on armorama
About the diorama- if the cottage ruin is new remember you will need a big pile of rubble

Your tank looks great. One observation; your cottage looks to be more 1/32 than 1/35. Good job otherwise.

Thanks Matt for the comments...and yes even I felt the cottage is a bit small..I used a 1/35 scale soldier to get the measurement referances but guess during the build something went a bit wrong....anyway I will go with this one as am too tired to scrap this one and start all over again

Mission accomplished...finally I finished my second dio. Took me almost 10 months to build this one. Every prop is scratch built (except the tank which is a DML model kit). The runied cottage is made up of cork, foam, plaster of paris, balsa wood and cardboard. The electric pole is made up of balsa wood and epoxy putty. The debris is small bits and pieces of balsa splinters and plaster of paris, all glued together piece by piece and then coloured. Took a hell lot of time on the debris. Enough talking...here are some pictures. Hope u will like it and looking forward for some comments and criticism

It looks pretty good overall. The only issue I have with it is the Che Guevara poster on the wall in what I suppose is Russia in WWII. Che Guevara was a 1960's Leftist Revolutionary who became most popular during the Cuban Revolution of the late 1950s. He was not a national figure during WWII.

You did a nice dio Sudeep, congrats
There's just one issue.
When and were your model is set?
If you wanted to depict a russian ww2 scene, the Che Guevara poster on the wall is a chronological mistake
However as I said a really nice build
cheers

Thanks gentlemen
I didn't try to depict any period or history in this dio. Used only my imagination and put few things here and there...I do modelling for fun and don't really refer any historical facts, data or picture....

Fun is most important!! After all it's supposed to be a hobby!
The finished ruin looks nice...the tank looks fine too...but the 2 together simply don't match sizewise IMHO.
Also, the post is far too thick. It would be far too expensive to do 1 tree = 1 post.
Far from me to discuss your aims and goals, but why did you go into details to get the T34 historically correct (star, serial..) if you don't care about the dio being halfway correct??
Cheers
Romain

Thanks Romain for the comments, will keep in mind about the size thing in future...I built this tank last year and it was lying around. Thought would be interesting to display this with a dio...but looking at the recent comments I guess I have to get my history right next time

You will do just fine, no doubt!!
One more thing, if you display vehicles in a small dio or vignette, you might consider adding the "human factor" by including a figure (tank commander f.ex.) or two! It helps to link the vehicle and the surroundings.
If I ever build a T34 I'd "cover it" in infantry riding on top! Nowadays, you don't even have to convert the figs anymore...they are available commercially!
..but then again, I've always been more into figures than vehicles, so I am (probably) biased!!
Cheers
