hey guys I am possibly working on a Afghanistan dio with ruusian soldiers.
What BMP would be used in afghanistan? Also are Zvesda models figures particulary Russian special forces detailed or are the bad. Finally are UM models vehicles any good for destroyed vehicles. If anybody has any helpful tips please help......

The Russians used BMP2s and BTR-70s in Afghanistan. I believe that their MBT was the T-62. I'm not sure about the UM for destroyed vehicles, but I have experience with Zvezda figures and they seem to be of decent quality. Hope this helps.

Hi Frank,
according to Concord`s War in Afganistan book, the soviets used a panoply of vehicle in their Afgan campaign.
BMD-1 and BMD-2
SA-4 Ganef
BMP-1 and BMP-2
T-62 E with horseshoe armor
MTLB
BTR-60 and 70
BM-14, BM-21 and BM-22 MRL
M-1987/1 Mine Clearing tank on T-55
So it`s plenty of stuff to choose from.

the BTR152 was not used, unless you want to build an Afghan army one.
I suggest BMP-2D zvezda with some AM, BTR-70 or 80.
as you may know, Zvezdas new Soviet Afghan war set 3619 will be available this month, heres a link

Frank the UM models are just re-boxing of the ones that Skif had put out some time ago. The MT-LB will build up nicely for a destroyed tank and comes with a partial interior for a good starting point. The Zvezda special forces could work even though they are technically ment for the Chechen wars and afterwards. Here is a review over on Modellversium that you can check out if you can read german.

Also Dishmodels.ru is another good place to check out for built up zvezda figures. You can also get figures from masterclub and rest that had Afghan related figures.
