I must say your weathering at this point is grate, but if you keep adding to it your going into WWII type of weathering. An that just not what you see on the ground in either Iraq or Afghanistan. The chips look right on, but not so much on the rust or sand dust.
Still your weathering is the best I have see so far.
Guys take note of this work and try do do as he has done. I'm going to try and use some of your style on my ABV. I hope it comes out as well as yours has!

I have to agree. I have served on ASV's including in Afghanistan, and they get beat up. One place that get A LOT of wear, the side lower hatch where it contacts the step. One thing to remember, ASV's use MEXAS armor, not steel for their outer layer, so weather accordingly. Rust may not be appropriate in some places. The rust on your exhaust area is way too overdone, it would be black and sooty around the exhaust pipe and that's it, maybe some rust around chipped areas but that would be minimal. Also, I can't tell if you tried to rust ont he ammo shroud for the Mk-19, but that's made of fiberglass/kevlar so it would not rust.

The rear of a very well used ASV

Side

Not to slam you, as I think aside from the windows and the exhaust grates you have an excellent effect going. The chipping is outstanding and not overdone for the use that these vehicles get. Very well done.

Thanks for all of the tips and the great feed back. I have cleaned up some of the oil wash and rust. For the windows I know that the color blue is not correct, but it was something I saw on another M1117 Kit. Cleaned up photos coming soon.

Good to see you back safe and sound and looking forward to seeing some updates on this.

Did you manage to get any good vehicle photos in Bagram that you can share?

Those ASV pictures I posted were taken at BAF. Welcome home and congrats on escaping the misery that is BAF.

I was only there for the latter part of 2010 and only for a day or two at a time when I went on leave and later on when we'd come in for supply runs, but the SGM Mafia was getting out of hand. I heard it peaked the following year with 1st CAV and then common sense starting coming back in. The traffic was rediculous as well. We were on the Warrior side of the base and it was quieter over there as no on went there unless you had a good reason. Best DFAC is still the one over at the detention facility. All in all, it was BAFtastic... If you're bored... www.ilovebagram.com

The M1117 hull is stylistically similar to the Type 74 Hovertruck from the anime series Mobile Suit Gundam. Looking at these two threads, plus sgtsauer's build log, I get the urge to get a second Bandai UCHG Platoon Briefing Set kit and use it to kitbash the M1117 to produce a companion vehicle for the M353A4 (a detection variant of the Type 74) in the kit:

Replace the armor panels on the lower hull sides to cover the wheel wells, rework the underside to fit the mounting arms for the ducted fan units from the Bandai kit, and look at replacing the M1117 turret with the M353A4's:
