Hi folks
what is the best way of thinning humbrol matt cote ?
would tamiya enamel thinner be ok, or would it be better off not thinned at all ?
thanks for any advise

You should dilute it with white spirit

If you don't dilute it at all you'll risk to have unaesthetic white stains on the model and a too thick paint coat
Anyway, as Matt alluded, I've heard that actually Humbrol matt coat is not a very good product
Cheers

Humbrol has two different matt cotes. One in the little tinlets and the other in clear glass bottles (both round and square types). The matt cote in the tinlet is pure rubbish ... no matter how much you stir it and shake it, it will be a shinny finish. Ive tried several tinlets with the same results. The matt cote in the glass bottles is much better. Personally I thin it with Humbrols own enamel thinner. When spraying this is more important as it can seperate in the cup, if you use the wrong thinner, with the thinner rising to the top and goop blocking the brush.
One thing that is very important with this matt cote is not to contaminate it with metallics from cleaning your brush, etc. If you brush it and have used cleaner you have cleaned brushes after metallic paint, you will get a glossy effect. I have 2 jars for cleaning ... one for gloss/metallics/oils/etc and one for flat paints.
