I have seen some pictures here that, in all honesty, make me a bit envious. Headlights and taillights on vehicles that look like they might actually be real lights. If someone could shed a little light (please excuse the pun) on this I would be ever so grateful. Cheers.

Super glue. Just put a little blob on top of the color of the light. It dries clear and appears to be glass.

Don't try superglue, it can fog and run and be a mess.
The most realistic lights are done using drilled out sockets painted chrome silver and clear lenses added. The lenses can be found in different sizes from model railroad shops.
Another method is drilling out the socket, painting it chrome, and filling it with a drop of clear epoxy.
For tail lights, a couple coats of clear red over chrome silver looks good. Give it a coat or two of clear gloss to finish it off.

Get half round craft beads at your local Hobby Lobby, Michaels or other craft store. They make for decent headlamps on the cheap.
But the other methods mentioned work verry well too.

For clear headlight lenses, look for these at Michaels.
Other alternatives are MV Lenses - from model train shops, and there are a couple other types out there for our hobby but their names escape me at the moment.
