recieved a set of afrika korps figures and starting to do some painting. however, the color that it indicates is european green. obviously, without any manipulation such as fading/weathering, the color just doesnt seem right. im thinking i may be better off going with a desert color brown. but, im not sure what brown (model master) i should use. or, would you say its correct to keep this figure in this color? from pictures i have seen, trousers and tunic are usually different colors...any help is appreciated

The uniforms started their service life in olive green. The tunic and breeches faded rapidly. The peaked soft cap was often deliberately washed and faded so as to not mark one as a newbie. Overcoats were a chocolate brown as were some sweaters. The pull over shirts were a khaki tan, as were some trousers.
Helmets were painted a sand color and the canteen felt cover was brown. Pith helmets were seen in every shade from green/khaki to yellow/tan.
EVERYTHING faded, and was a different shade quite quickly. Add to this a mish mash of captured British and "borrowed" Italian uniforms, and you'll quickly see the futility of an exact paint color.
Oh and the first Panzertruppen wore the continental black uniform.

Vallejo has Afrika Korps paints under Panzer Aces that fully cover the uniforms, equipment and vehicles in addition to their Model Color.Model Air lines.
