Gents

This is my take on Mikey Wittmann 1/35. It's almost done.

This figure shows the rank of SS-Hauptsturmführer (captain).
He was promoted to SS-Hauptsturmführer from
SS-Obersturmführer (first lieutenant) after the battle at
Villers-Bocage in Mid-June, 44.
I did this so that AFV modelers can correctly put this figure next to
the famous Tiger callsign "007" which he burrowed for the mission
and was killed in on Aug 8, 44.

Without further due, here are the pics:

Hi Taesung

I think this will be a very popular figure but....and I think you know I love your figures, I don't see a strong resemblance I'm afraid. Sorry, and I know that this comment may be unpopular but please read on.

To be honest when I saw you write over on the figure forum that you were working on the Wittmann figure I was going to comment that you'd already done him....

I think this one you created just recently, of the Russian tanker is the one out of all the figures I've seen lately that looks most like him and its not even made as him. Use this one.

No offence I hope.

Guys

Thanks for taking time to leave comments!

While I was working the face, I noticed that
a same face can look different in photos.
It's just my take on Ol' Mikey. That's all.

Here's some pics I was working from:

Hi

That last one is one I've not seen before and it certainly puts a different perspective on his face structure compared to the others. Reminds me of a young Lee Van Cleef the actor around the eyes.

Of course once he's painted will again make a difference.

I just thought the other, the Russian tanker was a good likeness of him, with maybe just a thinning of the jaw line to the more smaller pointed one he seemed to have.

best regards

Alan

First of all,I think that you are amoung the top5 figure guys in the world. Second,I have to disagree with Alan. I believe, after seeing the first pic, that you captured his likeness very well. Good job.

I think the level of detail you achieve in 1:35 is astounding. Such clean precise work, and something I definitely wish to aspire to. Your style is captures the true folds of clothing without the sense of stylised folds and creases as are still so prevalent in the industry.
Knowing little of Wittman or German whatevers, I think I can be objective on the face sculpted vs. the photo images shown?
The likeness for me is there, save for maybe a slight rerworking of the nostrils which maybe are not as prominent as in the period photos? Also a slight pinching to define the tip of the nose further?
Best

It's just the nose I think, but it's hard to tell until we see it painted. Otherwise the features and attitude look very well done.

Gents

Thanks for the kind words! Far too kind!

Alan,
that Russian figure does not looking anything like
Wittmann in bare resin... maybe it's just me.

or me and I think your judgement is the more important one....

Its your company and its renowned, quite rightly, throughout the model figure world as one of the best there is, so its going to be a great seller I'm sure.

Can I ask who you've lined up to paint the figure for the boxart ?

all the best

I guess modelers' judgement is just as important if not more.
After all, Alpine depends on modelers' judgement.

The figure will be painted by Man-Jin Kim

I will be buying one of these for sure buddy! Will there perhaps be a companion figure? Like the rest of the Alpine line? Maybe Scharfuhrer Woll?
I have to confess that I have bought almost all of your figs, mostly just to look at them in person to admire the superior workmanship.
Keep on keepin on dude.

Hi Taesung, I really like your work. Alpine is one of my favourite figure lines. Small criticism - most of the figs are 'standing and looking', and not enough action poses; running, shooting, etc. I hope your Wittman fig won't be 6' tall like most figures as he was only around 5 1/2'.

I have not bought any Alpine figures because I find too many of the poses the same: variants on the "Heroes of Socialism" statues that used to dominate Eastern European city squares. I would like to have these incredibly-detailed and lifelike figures DOING something, not just standing there. Many of them are supporting their weight on one hip, which looks very natural, but it's often the same pose, more or less.

But this one looks very interesting, and could work next to a variety of vehicles, not just 007.

Well, I think it's a pretty good likeness and the uniform details are great. I might get this guy to paint up as a stand-alone figure (or maybe a small vignette with the promissed Bobby Woll).

I'll look forward to seeing this figure released.

Thanks for the preview, Taesung!
