Hi folks, here are a few pics of my first attempt at a 1/16 figure that i have been slowly working on for the last couple months on and off. after lots of reading and practice and the with the latest issue of MMI to finally get my ass in gear here is my almost complete figure. just a couple touch ups and the shoulder/lapel patches, small amount of weathering and a small base to put him on and it should be complete. the figure was primed with mr surfacer 1000 airbrushed on then vallejo acrylics ruled the day, mixed up with some black and sepia artist ink for shading etc. I must say that this was a really enjoyable project painting each piece by piece figure painting in 1/35 doesn't really get me all that excited now that i have had a taste of this bigger scale. i have another tamiya figure in the stash and am going to look at picking up one of alpines pieces in the near future. I have a bit to work on, specialy my dilution ratios. i am pretty happy with how the face turned out but there isn't much exposed skin on this one. the other problem i have to combat is the glossiness of the finish in places but hey practice makes perfect. I'll apologize in advance for the poor quality pictures. i think it looks far better in "real life" but untill i get a real camera the camera phone will have to do. Any comments are appreciated since this is a learning game.
thanks in advance
Jon

Jon- this is some top class work! Did you use any Vallejo Matt varnish? (I spray this on my figures to combat that presky glossy finish that sometimes appears.)
I really think you've done a great job with the blending and the face looks just fine- appears puffed out and tired to me!! I especially like the leather- I think you've captured the look of the battered webbing very well.
Great work.
(If you like figures like this you should try a few 200mm, 1/10 or 1/9 busts- they are great fun if you like the bigger scale figures.)
Cheers,
-Karl187-

Thanks Karl, i used some tamiya flat in the basecoat but with the highlights is where the glossyness came up. I am toying with the idea of blasting some flat coat but dont wanna risk messing up what I've done so far.

If I'm unsure of how something would affect the paint beneath I sometimes give it a go on a piece of plastic card.
Personally speaking I think your figure looks fine as is- the glossiness isn't all that noticeable.
Like you said, practice makes perfect!
Good luck,

Hi Jon.
This was the first 1/16 figure I had a go at too. The only difference is that I converted mine slightly, to show a wind from behind him blowing his coat bottom in at the back and out at the front. He's on a small base, depicting a cold, wet, slushy track. It's titled "The Long Road Home, Winter 1943/44". Once I figure out how to do it, I'll post some pics.
Your figure looks great, I'm loving the detail you've got on there. Don't worry too much about the finish, you can soon flat it back. I tend to paint with oils when doing figures, so I get the problem all the time.

Thanks Karl, and thanks for getting the pics up. I'm afraid I'm not too computer literate.

hey richard, i really like the way you have the great coat sweeping forward with the wind and the smoke really pulls it together in my opinion. really like the way his face looks cold. i think mine looks a little too warm for the suggested weather it would be during but again all in all quite happy with the end results. i started on a small base but that kinda got side tracked with building my stryker atgm and finishing a 1/48th panther i should have some photos of shortly.
