Hi all, I was just experimenting with a couple things to use for my wash. I first tested Universal Enamel Thinner. When just brushed on, it does nothing to the paint. However, if I take my finger and rub, then the paint comes off. Next I tried Isopropyl Alcohol which had the same effect. Now my question is, if I just use the brush to apply the thinned wash paint (with either solution) and then use a brush for pastels, and such, will the paint get all messed up? does Mineral Turpintine have the same effect (will paint come off if you rub your finger on it?) Or better yet, should I just use a clear matt or glossy finish to seal it and then do the wash? Will the alcohol/turpintine remove the clear finisher? Thanks for any and all help.

Joe, what kind of paint are you using for your camo colors? Enamel or acrylic?

The second question is:
How many time did you wait before doing the washes?

I am using tamiya acrylics. And the paint has been on there for a good week before I tested on it.

Tamiya acrylics with an acrylic flat clear coat over it should be fine. Use mineral spirits as your wash thinner. It won't effect the Tamiya paint or the clear coat.

That's plenty of drying time Mark. Just lightly touch it with the back of your hand/finger to make sure. In my experience Tamiya acrylics will dry very quickly.
