Sorry. I was just trying to spread the news about a new release. I also see there is a much awaited M4A3 75(w) in 1/35, smart kit, due to be released soon. It is in Western Europe markings. I almost never get exactly what I want, but there is a lot more to choose from now.

Me either Russ! I've been waiting for a new tool Universal Carrier forever. Funny how such a ubiquitous vehicle with multiple variants has escaped the attention of anyone other than Resicast. I can only guess that it is not expected to be a great seller. Heck, I'd buy a few.

Russ.............this subject is like throwing a ball in front of a dog. A lot of us are compelled to chase it. And even the ones that say they are bored with it still manage to make their comments heard. It is all a matter of opinion and no one should loose sleep over it. Debate is good, lest we fall in line like a bunch of mindless zombies.....................

Yes, it's all about debate...and the love of arguing. That's democracy, and the fun of it !
Franck, you are tired of this sort of posts, but you still follow it and reply twice I have the privilege to stimulate Alan's arguments (which are always the same BTW), for you pleasure apparently

And anyway it's Ron who started

All the best to all of you, even the German thingiies builders :)

I don't mind more German sets as long as they keep them useful and interesting.

What I would really like to see are some more new Japanese, French, Italian, Commonwealth, and Polish figures. More US figures would be great as well, as would civilians and non-combatant military personnel.

Modern figures continue to be in short supply as well, just a thought...

Seems pretty clear to me:

DML puts out German figures and THEY SELL.

So it puts out more German figures and THEY sell.

Etc.

MA and MB are putting out Allied figures, and they sell, but don't seem to sell out.

It's the numbers.

The only thing that would please me more are figures at rest. Not enough of those.

I think that the difference there is that a lot of people loyaly, and perhaps blindly, follow DML because they percieve them as the epitome of quality, much in the same way that people used to percieve Tamiya, and look down on the other companies offerings. It's just a thought, I could be wrong...

It's possible I suppose that some of the other companies may take the view that if Dragon are in the process of putting out every variant of every vehicle that features in Doyle and Chamberlain then they may as well leave them to it.

It would seem to me that Dragon have a very slick operation that is able to produce new kits at a much faster rate than any other manufacturer (I wonder if Airfix even managed this many new kits each year when they were banging them out in the 60s-70s). Other companies may therefore see it as more risky to develop some kit in case Dragon is about to come out with the same thing. While Nazi German subjects clearly leads the way in popularity, other subjects may therefore be less of a risk for those other companies. I think you have a point Jeremy, about the perception of many modellers, who rate Dragon over other makes, and that of course increases that perceived risk to the others.

So far, only Trumpeter has had the stones to duke it out with Dragon. DML is a very big company (compared to most other model manufacturers) with a slick distribution network. Their only serious competition in that is Tamiya, and they have much less to offer.

It's impossible to know what thoughts are in the minds of most model companies. Certainly Tasca was going up against Dragon when they started their Sherman line. They've just done very well with their product and its qualities.

"If you build a better mousetrap, the world will beat a bath to your door." While that's a cliche, it's also true.

That is also true, but it doesn't mean we shouldn't needlessly speculate !

I'm past caring.

No company will ever please all modellers all of the time, so what's the point losing any sleep over it?

As others have said, there's never been so much choice and quality available in the hobby as there is today. In fact if you look at the bigger picture, in the words of Harold MacMillan "we've never had it so good".

Is this a nice set of figures? Yes.
Will I buy it? Probably not.
Will it still sell by the lorry-load? Most likely.
Is yet another set of DML Germans any skin off my nose? No.

Agreed.

If a model company you like is not making kits you want, post the following:

and leave it at that. I am sorry for your cause, but seems like most of these things snowball. I will usually see something of the likes:

"People who only model German subjects must have some fetish with the 3rd Reich" These comments really upset me.

~~
Can't they tell by my models of every AUSF ever produced that I am an ardent Nazi. Maybe I should put swastika air recognitions on every one just to show my love.
~~

End Sarcasm. Sorry for being sarcastic I just really don't like the comments about german modellers being Nazi supporters.

Good debate. I build what I like...I really like these figures and will probably buy them. BUT! I would like sets of early WWII French, Polish and British soldiers and I would buy them if released...AND I'm not paying $17.00 for a set of Tamiya French infantry that look like mannequins.

Why doesn't DML release Polish and French subjects that AREN'T portrayed as being captured?
