Can you tell me what specificly you will be modeling? Tet 68' in a specific city? , Khe San, Phu Bai,...........give me a location or specific conflict and I can give you a specific answer.

Sam,
The first into Hue was Captain Batcheller's Alpha company, 1st battalion, 1st Marine regiment ( Alpha 1/1 ) . This unit had just arrived at nearby Phu Bai to replace the 1st & 3rd Marine Divisions. Phu Bai is about 17 kilometers south of the souther half of Hue straight up national highway #1. The original mission was to link up with Brigadier General Ngo Quang Trung's 1st ARVN division and 7th ARVN Armord Cavalry Batalion located inside the citidel just north of the Tong Tu gate and market place, on the north side of the Perfume River. Well that sounds like a dramatic setting for a model!!!!
What an exciting setting for a dio. or Vignette!!!!
Please contact me directly at [email protected] . I will scan and send as many images to you as you like. This way you can find a uniform configuration that matches your intended piece. You will notice that the colors are very different due to the fact that these guys spent a few weeks in the field with out change of clothes. Also the dust and debri of urban combat lends a unique look to the Marines in Hue.
I look forward to hearing from you and sending images. I study Vietnamese conflicts very thuroughly and I am very excited to help someone else who has taken an interest.

First, the cotton sateen utilities worn were not OD. They started as a green color with a slight olive tint. They faded rapidly to a medium sage color. Remember this was the era of heavy starch, polished brass, and blocked covers, stateside that is.
The first jungle style utilities were a medium od green that rapidly faded to a yellow green if not outright tan yellow.
Helmet covers faded so rapidly that the leaf camo, subtle to begin with, was gone. Think a light sage with a yellow tint.
Web belts were khaki cloth and we scrubbed the stink out of them. They bleached out to a near white.
Field gear was OD, but depending on whether made from canvas or nylon, faded, rotted, got filthy and couldn't be cleaned. Packs were Khaki canvas that again showed various shades.
Boots were black leather that originally had a spit shine. That went away rather quickly. They scuffed to a point it where the boots looked white, then they rotted.
Flak jackets started as a dark greyish green. They always seemed to attract dirt, dust, and whatever greasy substance was around. The collar area and under the arms were literally black. They would NOT come clean, don't ask....
