I haven't tried this out yet, and don't have much experience/equipment at my disposal, so I figured I'd run this by the forum.
Black/brown spray preshading
MM Modern Desert Sand [enamel spray can version]
brown pin wash/filter
drybrush white [simulate sun exposure/general weathering]
decals
dullcoat
light tan pigments on lower hull/tires
pencils [for scratch marks]
further dullcoat
Like I said I've never done this before, especially since I only tend to work with acrylics. I'd really appreciate any opinions, because I'm not sure if I'm on the right track
Thanks for the help,
Neu

Neu,
What you have will work very well. I would just add a coat of Future before and after the decals to prevent silvering and seal them.

A couple things I would do differently. First, I don't believe in preshading. It isn't realistic and looks silly to me, but to each their own. Next, I always apply the decals and seal them before any weathering (your first pin wash). This allows the decals to weather the same as the rest of the tank.
I would reorder your list as such:
MM Modern Desert Sand [enamel spray can version] (MM Sand FS33531 is a better match)
glosscoat
decals
dullcoat
brown pin wash/filter
drybrush white [simulate sun exposure/general weathering]
light tan pigments on lower hull/tires
pencils [for scratch marks]
further dullcoat
Other than that, you are on the right path. Good luck.

I know, I've heard all over the place that the MM Sand was gonna be a better match. I should have specified that I don't have an airbrush, and so that's why I have to resort to these spray cans for the time being till I can fund an airbrush.
I don't remember where but I heard somewhere that the Modern Desert Spray was a relatively close match for US armor, but I haven't been able to find out if people agree with that statement.
I was hoping the white drybrush would help lighten it up a little bit, especially if I kept going beyond what I would normally do.

Also what exactly is Future? Never realized that was different from any other clear coat...

Future is acrylic floor wax. Some people use it as a gloss coat before decals and to seal the decals after application. I prefer Testors glosscoat and dullcoat.

I find MM Armor Sand closer to the color of modern desert camo.

I don't know if you saw this answer to your question a few weeks ago, but here it is again. This comes in a spray can, goes on smoothly, and is a DBO match for CARC sand:

Oh yeah, thanks Robert I did see that. I went to the site but couldn't find anything that wasn't in bulk for $300-some...?

True, by the case, it's just under $20.00 per can for the non CARC restoration paint. (about $229 per case) Maybe if enough people on here were interested in a group buy?
