Hey,
I wanted to start a new topic to display the progress of another Winter War dio with armor and a few figures.
It takes place in Karelian forest, two Finnish soldiers are about to destroy a T-26 with a Kasapanos.
And here we go, a couple of teasers for "Light my Fire":

A close-up featuring Suomi SMG gun and the "Kasapanos":

Comments/suggestions welcome!
Cheers, Toni

Toni,
Sounds like an interesting project and by the looks of the drawings it has good composition,
the winter war is one of my favorite WW2 subjects and have and still am researching it and hope to do more modeling subjects of it,as for now all i have are two KV's in different paint schemes in the photo album and a little vignette of a T-34 and two finnish soldiers, the T-34 is in Finnish colors.
I would like to see more models of the lesser known areas of the conflict.
Can't wait to see it when you build it.

Yeah...that comes to mind! One of my favourite songs and Iīm not even old!
Is that maybe a bit too bold for a title? Maybe a more ordinary "Have a light?" would be funny in this context...
Think about a in a situation like that, your matches keep cracking instead of igniting...

Great idea for a dio! I'd stay away from the song lyric by THe Door, just becaus it doens't match the era. The aforementioned simple statement "Got a light?" is probably the best--simple and to the point. Can't wait to see it done!

I really like it! The layout is very nice.
I was just wondering - in scale, how tall the hill will be in relation to the figures?

what is Kasapanos?

From looking at the drawing it looks like a german stick handgrenade, with 5 or so charges from other stick granades with out the stick to make a big BoOM!!
am I correct?

Finnish made piled up charge. Even 10 kilos weight charge was very effective
against tanks.

Yes Anders, you are correct. Basically a satchel charge on a stick.

Well, the hill will be quite high. Like in the picture, maybe even a couple of meters! I thought it could reflect the (un)balance of Russian and Finnish forces, the desperate situation. It was maybe 10:1. These two guys, not yet noticed by the tank, still have to throw the 10kg charge uphill, and wish for the best...I donīt know about the historical accuracy, but I thougt to give the tank a very bright red detail and try to finish the figures to blend in the landscape.

Thanks to M1Garand Educational Services(TM) for opening up the Kasapanos!

I went to search for a tank for the dio. They said they just sold their last T-26 kit yesterday...
But then I found something else:
A T-38 tank by Moldovan (?) AER. The package was the ugliest Iīve ever seen. It was cheap. I looked inside and it actually seemed no less than regular Tamiya-kit detail and quality! Not the decals, though. They were horrible. And not all the tracks are single links, thereīs at least one part that needs a little x-acto "adjusting"...but not bad, for 10 euros!
I was worried about the money with this project, now it seems I may afford some resin heads and other dress-up when my tank didnīt cost me a fortune!

BTW, is AER a well-known brand? Experiences?
I just heard about it for the first time

Toni

PS There are STILL no Finnish snow suit soldiers!!!

hey envar,
i do like the fact that Finland embarassed the russkies in '39-'40 and slapped Stalin garbage in the face.

i', glad the russkies fell apart, serves the &^*(%$) right.

Does anybody have ref material on that T-38 tank, or, what adjustments should I make in the AER kit to make it accurate? It has a pretty bad gun and lights I can tell.
For the colouring I thought about going for dark green scheme to make some contrast with the massive amount of snow itīs crawling through. I only found a couple of pics of this tank in the net, none of them in the white-over-green winter camo the kit instructions suggest...

I would appreciate ANY extra info regarding this AER T-38 kit!

I did the soviet WWII "jeepski" by AER (gaz something...) by AER... and the quality wasn't great.
The fit and precision weren't the best... but the models come cheap and some subjects are unique !

Toni,

I have some reference photos that I will scan for you A.S.A.P. The AER kit is wrong in a large number of places, but luckily most of those places can be corrected with a minimal amount of effort. Most of the places that are incorrect are in the running gear. I will step out the changes that I made while building mine in the email with the scanned photos in it.
