Greetings all. I was just wondering, when the Tiger tanks were painted grey, and when they started making them dark yellow with camoflouge. Also, from what years did the have/ not have zimmerit paste? Thank you

Joe,
Tiger I's were painted Dunkelgrau from their introduction in July 1942 until February 18, 1943, when the Dunkelgelb/Olivgrun/Rotbraun camouflage pattern became law.
Zimmerit was applied from September 1943 to September 1944.
Tiger I's were in production from July 1942 to August 1944.
So, Tiger I's left the factory:
Dunkelgrau from July 1942 to February 1943.
Dunkelgelb/Olivgrun/Rotbraun, no Zimmerit, from February 1943 to September 1943.
Dunkelgelb/Olivgrun/Rotbraun, with Zimmerit, from September 1943 to August 1944.

Matt;
I thought that the standard factory painting scheme switched from a mono-chrome dunkelgrau to mono-chrome dunkelgelb in FEB 1943, with the rotbraun and olivgrun being supplied to the field troops as pigment-concentrate to apply as they could - that factory "production" tri-color camo jobs came about later, in 1944 (and did not apply to Tiger I production at all)?
Maybe I have it all twisted around in my head! But I am sure there were Tiger I in dunkelgelb - only...?
Cheers!
Bob

My bad Bob, you are correct. It was very late last night that I answered Joe's questions. Instead of "left the factory" it should have just been "were painted". Sorry.
