Ok.. Drybrush... done by aplying a touch of a lighter colour. And what if the base color is white (UN vehicles, for example) ?

Hi Ricardo

The white paint (winter comouflage) on vehicles is often applied as a temporary finish. As it wears away the normal camouflage underneath is revealed... so that's the colour to use when dry-brushing. :-)

Hope this helps

Hummm I wasn't thinking about winter camouflage. I gave the example of UN vehicles. But I could also mention the situation of armour interiors. In fact it was this last situation what rosed my question as I'm finishing the interiors of a Sturmtiger.

What you could do is give your white basecoat a very gentle tint of the colour that would ordinarily be under it, ie: green. Then tint some white with some yellow and dry brush your model. Use a final coat of straight white drybrushed over that. Most of the UN vehicles that I've been in still have a little basecoat showing through the white. They also have areas where the white has been worn away or where it has poor coverage. White tends to age toward the yellow hues when painted over green.

Start with light gray, add a wash of slightler darker gray, blue-gray and white highlights for a cooler effect. Go with cream, light tan shadows and pure white highlights. For your UN vehicles, I'd go vietnam era camo (underside) gray for the base. A neutral gray for shadows/wash and white for the drybrushied highlights.

I would not use straight white for a base color. Most white changes color as it ages. It really depends on what kind of atmosphere it is in. Of course, the base white itself may have been a tinted white. I do not use straight white for any basecoats now. I only use it for high, highlights.
