I'm currently working on a M1114, and i was wondering what kind of kit would be carried in the crew compartment and in the trunk of the vehicle.Would MRE's, Coke boxes, spare mags flashlights and radios be commonly scattered around? Also would spent shell casings be appropriate if the vehicle saw combat?
Thanks Alot

MRE's - yes. Coke? As mentioned in a few other threads, not the best choice when you might find yourself dismounted and running around in the desert. Dehydration waiting to happen. Add plenty of water bottles, in the trunk and next to each crew member.
Spare mags and flashlights scattered about? No, they be in your "go bag."
Legend makes a nice set of these. Even then, you can never have enough
Spare fi'ty ammo boxes strapped into the crew compartment will work too, unless you've got it attached to the turret. Even then, you can never have enough ammo.
Not much else in the crew compartment as that stuff just becomes a missile when you hit an IED. Maybe some WP grenades (taped onto the radios usually) and little comfort items. Accurate Armour makes some bichin Dorito bags. I guess those are pretty harmless...
Radios? Not, mounted in your vehicle, or on your kit. If you did bring a spare for any reason it wouldn't be unprotected in the dusty trunk.
Spent fi'ty casings appropriate in the turret, maybe one or two in the vehicle. Some make it onto the hood but don't generally stay there long.
And read this thread:

It has a link in it to an even better thread on M1151 stowage which would be virtually identical.

Ah the ever present Copenhagen. Yes, you might see a tin of it on the dash. Easier than fishing it out of your pocket. One of those things that's also not good for you in the desert, but some guys have their vices. Girly magazines -
a: A violation of the first general order, and
b: Not well received by Muslims when they're crowding around your vehicle begging for pens and water. (Officially anyway, but that's a different story. It DID get me into Syria though)
Maxim would be about you could get away with.
Personal letters? Never. Not even in your pocket. I didn't even carry photos, but that's just me.
How about an issue of Hot Bike or 4x4? Or Guns and Ammo? Porn comes in many forms.

Hypothetically, there may have been a truck crew that had one of the GIBs read a copy of Penthouse Letters to the rest of the crew while on mission...
As for letters, maybe, it depends on a lot of things. If it's a long multi day mission that's mounted and you just got the mail before you SP'd. I did it once or twice, but I burned the envelopes first and got rid of anything with an address. Dip was everywhere.

We call them Assault Packs instead of back packs/knapsacks. Rucks are rucks. They would be carried dependent upon mission. An assault pack was always carried however, you kept your night vision, extra magazines and ammo, extra batteries and whatever else you might need for that mission in there. Sometimes we would mount them inside or outside depending on how much room we had inside.

I'm not sure what the Trumpeter set has, but like I said, the Legend set has go bags AND the assualt packs Steve mentioned. It's a great set as you get a lot of different packs for your money.
You CAN use the ALICE as well. All the old troopers know it's still the best game in town. Holds more stuff, and won't break on a hard parachute landing in cold weather like the MOLLE. Generally they fall under the catagory of "special equipment." They might have your demo, (flex linear charges, water impulse charges, things of that nature, or they might contain other items tailored to the particular mission.
I guess a soccer ball or two would work. I posted a request to see if there were any available about three years ago.
Here are two I forgot until now: A foldable assault ladder, and a Broco cutting rig.
Scroll down to see a photo of it in action:
