I just got the AFV Club Centurion Mk5 with dozer and can't figure out what color to use. I have MM 1710 Dark Green (FS 34079) and MM 1713 Medium Green (FS 34102). Which is closer? Is there a MM color that is better? I am pretty much limited to Model Master.

Also, would either of these work on a WWII Cromwell?

The MAFVA website has archived articles on British military colors. The Cromwell would be in SCC-15 Olive Drab, a bit greener than the US No. 9 OD.

Which using country are you depicting, when and where?

Generally, British armour in the immediate post war period was Deep Bronze Green when used at home, but might be olive drab camouflaged with black depending upon when you are modelling. If it's not a Brit machine, then we need to know the details to help.

Deep Bronze Green really isn't like either the Dark Green or the Medium Green.

These two photos show the deep bronze green in two different types of light

http://military-vehicle-photos.com.s3.amazonaws.com/55.jpg

Here's the same vehicle (a Saracen, BTW) in the drab & black scheme.

Lastly, here's a Saracen in service outside the UK:

There, how's that for indecision!

BTW, I used Saracens just 'cause I like them.

Before the British changed over to the Green and Black camoflage in the 70's, as stated everything was painted in 'Bronze Green'... A medium Gloss finish and right pain in the rear end..... Trying to 'Cam up' for exercises required time and patience.....

I have found that the Railroad color, 'Pullman Green' to be a close resemblance to the Bronze Green when used in 1/35th scale....

I was hoping to build it as British or Aussies in Viet Nam, does that help?

Well, the British colours we've looked at and it still depends upon exactly when you are talking about, but the Aussie Vietnam scheme is different again. If'n I remember correctly, the Aussies used an OD colour, but a bit lighter than the US OD of either WW II or post war.

Any idea what the FS number would be for the Deep Bronze Green or Pullman Green?
The directions don't give any info on the color except for the Danish OD2.
I'm pretty much limited to what I can get in a rattle can from MM.

I've heard that Tamiya TS-9 is pretty close, I could order some of that, I guess.

I'm afraid that there's no real FS 595 match for either.

White ensige models in the UK make a Deep Bronze Green, see here:

code - AR B 02 DEEP BRONZE GREEN

Okay, the more I reads the more confuzzled I gets. Just when and where was this variant of the Cent used? Korea? Viet Nam? Israel? With or without the dozer blade? I find pics of Mk 5s, but they all have the fume extractors!

And does anyone have any info on the markings supplied? I don't read Chinese.

Thanks again.

Mk 5s were Mk 3s with the Besa co-ax replaced by a Browning .30 cal. Everything else was the same as the Mk 3. The Mk 5 entered service in about 1953, first with the Brits and then with anyone who bought Mk 5s or Mk 3s from the Brts as the Mk 3s were easily converted to Mk 5s.
By the late 50s, Mk 5 could be found in the armies of:
Britian
Australia
The Netherlands
Denmark
Isreal
Egypt
Canada
South Afica
Jordan
Sweden
Switzerland
Lebanon
Iraq
Libya
Somalia

I'm not sure how many countries operated the dozer version, though and the African countries (except SA) didn't get too many Cents so are unlikely to have used the dozer.

Pick a country, any country...

Does anyone make an aftermarket Type B 20 pdr barrel? Or a 105? I can't find one. Would the Ti67 barrel work?

Accurate Armour, AFV both do Cent barrels though AA do all versions, i`ve used them and can recommend them.
Don`t forget the dozer`s didn`t have the extra glacis armour.
There were 3 types of `dozer
MK5 with 20lber type A&B
MK5/2 WITH 105mm
MK5/3 with 105mm and ranging gun, this was only used by British army.
They would have had the same markings as the rest of the Sqn.
The Cent dozer was not used in Korea but was used by the Aussies in Vietnam and in BAOR, UK, and every where else the British Army had Cents.
1 per Sqn
MK5`s used type A and B barrels, also early production turrets, top and side
loading hull bins, some were fitted with the armoured rear fuel tanks, some towed the Mono-trailer fuel tank.
Hope this helps

I'm no expert by any means, but the info I've found says that the differences between the Mk3 and Mk5 included not only the Browning, but also a new gunners periscope, additional return roller, new stowage boxes, no hatch on turret rear and a Type B gun with fume extractor. Some Mk3s were upgraded to Mk5 standards, but kept the Mk3 turret with rear hatch.

If the old MK3 turret was retained the rear hatch was welded up, it was removed on new build turrets.
The periscope was moved only on new builds, old turrets kept it in the original place.
THE 2in bomb thrower in the turret roof was deleted on the MK5

Ok, thanks.

So then, I could build this beastie for Nam as Aussie? That would be cool. Who makes decals for Aussie Mk5 dozers?

Sorry if I'm asking too many questions.

If you go on the Anzac Steel web-site, there is a good photo of a Cent dozer taking part in the farewell parade wearing a one-off camo scheme

Bret Mouse house do Decals...If you find the threads in the Vietnam topic my blogs on there of the Mk 5/1 RAAC I think on there Mick Toal posted a picture of an Aussie dozer in Vietnam you can build it in Vietnam using the AFV club kit but it would need the Aussie mods like the new barrel Long range fuel Tank, rear turret basket, search lights and some other fittings I'm sure an expert or someone with more knowledge will come and chime in with this one...

Hi Mate,

If you search through the Eduard reviews with my name, a few years ago I reviewed their update sets for the Aussie cents in Vietnam.

Good luck in your project.

Hmmm, well then.

Okay, does anyone know anything about the supplied decals, other than that they are 2 British, 1 Dutch and 1 Kiwi? Unit, time period, location?

Or would anyone have an AFV Club Mk5/1 Aussie to trade?
