Hi. Been doing some work on Trumpeter's new K5 and am working on the barrel section right now, as it looked to be the easiest place to start. Now that I have most the rear sleeve/breech section done and painted and also the forward barrel section done I am going to put these in an old model box on an old shirt and cover them up so they won't get damaged or dust coated till I'm ready for them in the construction process. And I plan to do several other sections of this model the same way as I go along. Now I was wondering, after waiting a week or so to be sure the paint is totally cured out, if I sould spray each piece or section with a coat of the Testor's Gloscote to seal it before putting it away in the box till I'm ready for them later, or should I just wait till the whole thing is together before giving them a coat to seal the paint? Or maybe it doesn't really matter one way or the other.

Anyway I was just wondering if anybody out there had any opinion on this one way or the other.

Thanks and take care, sgirty

What I can suggest is not to paint them once the single sub-asssemblies are ready to be stored, but to complete them, put them away as they are and paint them all together. The reason for this is that you will get more consistent colour through the painting stage. Paints tend to slightly change tone every time you take some off the jar, so the risk is to have the various sections that look different in colour when you put them together. On top of that also the thinning ratio can affect the process...

I agree, I usually build the subassemblies then have what I call a " painting day". I undercoat all at once and then go from there. Of course, interiors have to be finished first, but even there I try to work it into the general subassembly concept.
