Hi All,
I've got a 250/1 Dragon #6247 and, having read Bill Plunk's excellent build review, have scavenged a gearbox from a 251 kit.
Now, what I'd like to know is what would be appropriate to put under the gearbox and the floor so that it doesn't float in the air just attached by it's drive shaft to part C16? I assume the gearbox should mate up with the semi-circular moulding just forward of the seat mounts on part C11.

I brought this omission up in an earlier thread. The missing gearbox only comes with the 250/9 (I think), its the one with the 2cm gun turret. The gearbox from a 251 is totally the wrong shape and size. I contacted Dragon USA about the possibility of purchasing just the gearbox sprue - these parts were on a separate tiny sprue containing just 6 pieces and seemed to be added as an afterthought - but they were not very helpful. I am surprised that there has been no aftermarket resin piece. It would seem that very few people realize there is an important (and visible) part missing from the 250/1.

Biggles,
I realized the 251 part was the wrong shape but just thought it was better than nothing.
I've also thought about scratching something up. On Bill Plunk's build review there's a scan of the 250/9's instruction sheet (I think), which shows the missing parts and I was going to use this for rough dimensions etc.

The gear box also comes in the 250/8.
Google for walkarounds of the sdkfz 250/5, and sdkfz 10. That should get you plenty of pics.

you could obtain a kit of the 250/8 or 9 if you fancy building one at some point then cast a couple of resin pieces from the original part . I am thinking of doing this with the the part in the dragon kit so that if I decide to build a AFV Club 251 then I will have the part needed to consruct an accurate transmission cover.

My work-around was just an expedient of the moment to "fill the breach" of the missing parts and was never intended to be an accurate solution/replacement. The tranny parts on the actual 250 are different from that of the 251 of course but without anything better to hand at that point in the build, it did the job I needed at the time.

Thanks Bill,
I realized that but, as you say, expediency is better than nothing at all.
But now I've a clearer idea I might try the road to accuracy
