I don't know much about that kit but I have to say I am having a total blast building the tow version of the italeri hummer. I guess if the tamiya is a rebox of the basic kit than I do know about it. The fit it really nice on the parts, just make sure you don't over sand or some of the fits might not work out well. I a getting the academy tow kit also for some of its spare parts and I will have some extra so if you end up needing some extra parts let me know. Also the eduard PE kit is really nice.

Speaking of Hummers...I'm kitbashing the tow with the "Desert Patrol" Hummer. If anyone needs the tow from the italieri kit lemme know, and I'll mail it off to ya. I'm building a "turtleback" with a .50 cal on the armarment ring. Should be completed soon. I remember seeing one shooting over a wall on CNN during the Gulf War and thought that was the sh!t. Hence my project.

P.S. I was the designer at AM General who developed the sling hooks you see poking through the hood. Just a bit of useless info! (amazing how much I've learned from armor modeling that I have used later in life)

I saw a photo yeasterday of a soft top "desert patrol" type, in the Us Wheeled vehicles (Concord??) anyways, this appears very similar! I'll try to do further research on this. I'm sure Marcel is correct on the door configuration. I didn't happen to notice it.

:-) No problem. I'll try to get it to you this week. I have my computer in the office, and I'm only in once or twice a week. But I'll send it ASAP!

One of the national guard units I OCT has a local mod for thier TOW hummers. They have cut a plate to fit in the TOW mount with a pintal fitting so that a M2 MG can be fitted. Only problem is it a big problem to remove so that the TOW can be used.

Hey Steve...
Is there any way you can get some pics of that mod? I'm sure I saw a pic of that on the web reciently, but didn't save it. It would make an interesting addition to the Academy tow kit.
Thanks...

I was watching "Black Hawk Down" today, (Have to confess, watched it three times in the last 2 days), anyway, I am thinking about doing one of the Humvee with .50 mounted as the rangers were using. Anyone has good kit to recommand or information in regarding to these vehicles will be really appreciated.

It will be a good break from all the WW II German AFV I been working on.... :-)

Thanks Grey Hunter, I would give a look at my local hobby shop for this one, I read from the book, that it's an armored Humvee, any suggestions? Was the Acadmy one armored too?

Any marking information for that particular Humvee? The one used in the operation in Somalia, especially by the rangers on "The day of Rangers"?

Thanks in advance for your help.

So is the academy hummer more accurate than the italeri? I was under the impression that the Italeri was better. If someone knows could you please let me know whats good and whats bad about the 2 kits. I have the italeri tow hummer right now and ordered the academy for parts, should be here soon. Maybe I would be better of using the italeri for parts and the academy for the main model, although I have a lot of work done on the italeri so far. Anyway, thanks for the help

Drew, I'll start a new thread with the pluses and minuses of each.
