why are there water bottles hanging upside down from antenna's on todays modern armor?

Usually to mount ir strobes on the top (bottom of bottle)

Interesting. So by mounting them upside down, troops can use them for either situation...glow sticks inside or IR strobes on top (bottom)?

Naturally ,being Canadian,I couldn't figure out why the heck they were there on every piece of Canadian armour.So I went to one of our armed forces sites for the answer and yes they are for glow sticks for night ID.

Next time I deploy I think I'll put some generic object in a very visible place, and get everyone I know to do it as well. Then I can entertain myself when I get back reading the threads about it.

Here's a couple:
Duct tape a standard wall clock on its back on top of each vehicle with 12 o'clock aligned to the front of the vehicle.
Or a plastic "tupperware" half filled with food-colored water (or gatoraid) taped on a horizontal surface on each vehicle.
But these may be to "obvious".
