Hisham has a similar project :

On a side note, "Hummer" is for civvies (the Hummer is a HMMWV-like body on a regular 4x4 pick-up chassis.)

Well, sort of, depending on which version you are talking about.
The original H1 Hummer was the straight military HMMWV with a nicer, more comfortable interior, rims, and a few other refinements.
The H2 and H3 Hummers are HMMWV-like bodies on truck chassis. About all they have in common with a real HMMWV is the similar name and 4 wheel drive.
The H2 was built on a Chevy 3500 series truck chassis.
The H3 was built on the smaller Chevy Trailblazer chassis.
But you are correct. The military version is a HMMWV (High Mobility Multi-purpose Wheeled Vehicle), pronounced hum-vee. No self-respecting Soldier or Marine calls them a hummer. Air Force and Navy I won't go into....
