For the very rare photos I've seen for the BMP-3 deployed in Chechnya, could anyone suggest what type of camo would be seen on this vehicle? I was thinking it would be a 3 tone camo with light tan, green, and black but I have not seen this on any other vehicles in Chechnya in 1995. Can anyone offer some suggestions?

Also, would anyone happen to know what markings it would carry? I found some info on a unit that deployed them near Grozny but I can't seem to find that anymore

I just found the information. There were accounts of the vehicle used in the 2000 invasion of Grozny in the 2nd Chechen War outfitted in the 228th "Sevastopol" Motor Rifle Regiment, 85 MRD.

The question still remains, does anyone know what kind of camo these vehicles would have used?

Your blog was the reason i got the kit, miniarm stuff, 3 voyager sets, RB Models weapons set, and Evolution figures haha.

Its between the russian 3 tone camo, solid green, or a two tone camo

From what I've seen, I like the two tone over the solid color. The only reason I went with three was the photo I'm basing it on.

My question isnt that simple however. I am looking for camo for a vehicle serving in units that operated in Grozny in 1995 or in Grozny in 2000. As much as I would like one color I'd at least like to be as close as historical accuracy since evidence of this vehicle in Chechnya is extremely rare.

Hello!

There were few BMP-3 early models in Grozny in 1995. They were deployed in hospital complex and a lot of them were destroyed there too.
You are right, I know only few bw pics of BMP-3 in Grozny. As another vehicles during that campaign, they were painted green, three tone camo was not popular in that time

Thank you very much! Would you happen to know anything more about the vehicles like unit markings or the color of russian green during the conflict? Also, would you happen to have photos of the hospital complex in Chechnya?

Judging from the few pics I have seen they were painted solid green. Granted I am going on very grainy black and white photo's but they dont appear to show any camo painted on.

Rob we've seen the same photos. One seems like it is a 2 tone camo, but my next question is about the green. Is it 4B0?

Actually 4bo color - have not used currently. That color is dyed technique during the Second World War. Therefore, I advise spit on 4BO color and pick a color from photographs.
All the hype is with the right color, in mind. If so want this color, order online Akan.

I personally, for the painting of modern Russian equipment, using the Model Master enamel, color Olive Drab 1711, and its nuances.

In this forum or the Missing Link one i save a scan of a russian book that show clearly a pair of BMP3 one in all green , the other in 3 tons in first war.
So the two options are right.
I'll build mine with the 3tons camo...

Testor's Medium Green is what is called for. I don't think this is accurrate. I needs to be a little darker. MM Russian Green is much closer to the color currently used.

Any chance you can find that photo? The only photos I've seen are solid green and I would love to do a three tone camo version. I have all I need. I'm currently marking up the instructions for parts where PE needs to be added and welds and resin and all that good stuff
